My company just rescinded wfh/hybrid today. Mortgagecells get ready

My employer is a large multinational firm. As of next week hybrid working/wfh is done.

I know many people who bought homes over an hour away since they only had to put up with the commute 2 or 3 times a week. They of course paid 100k over asking, but its ok though because they are locked in at 3% and never need to move! (that is until the whole hybrid work model goes the way of pets.com, but i digress....)

Think of my company like a bellwether for corporate America.

When markets are down down down and there is a persistent recession, shareholders demand action. You really think your wfh plan was safe?

Anyone that bought a home far away from corporate offices to WFHmaxx better have their anus prepped and ready.

I think you mean "rentcels" get ready. WFH means the folks who escaped NYC to go back to WhereverTheFukk, Nowhereville, are having to come back here in droves.

Back to back to back historical record breaking rents in NYC.

JFL at rentcels.

Your company is your sample size?

Lol. Are you a wizard?

Most are more than an hour. Far flung Fairfield County exploded during past 2 years.

Same with upper upper westchester. Areas that used to be more affordable due to the horrible commute.

It's over 1.5hr door to door adding in train waiting and waking to office.

WFH is and was always going to end.

There is too much at economic stake to let people WFH. They are going to force you to go back to the office one way or another.

Once the real recession hits and people r really getting laid off, all these people will be foreclosed.

There are tons of people who even moved to diffrent states thinking wfh is permanent.

This.

Maybe some smaller hometown companies will still let you work from home, but if you think the bigger ones aren't going to force you to come back to the office, you're kidding yourself.

Either they come back to work or their jobs get outsourced oversees to someone who will do it for half the pay and similar benefits (UK, Chine, India, etc.)

I never had an issue w/ the WFH movement, but this movement isn't as big or powerful as it thinks it is.

It's hilarious how Covid absolutely rekked the boomer butts in seats guy, and the middle management, khaki trousers, powder blue blazer, wants to have work lunches, pizza party, watercooler talk about his sportsball college team types.

Absolutely rekked. Sure, some dinosaur companies will go back to butts in seats, and lose productivity because the competent people who excelled during wfh are leaving.

I don't think you watercooler brahs are going to get what you think you're going to get with return to butts in seats.

But..but..but...If I can't walk around all day and ask people what they're doing, holding meetings to discuss future meetings, working lunches, talking about sportsball at the watercooler, etc...how can we literally produce anything??? How can I justify my job?

lol'd at how accurate this is. you forgot the women that just want to gossip all day (same thing, just discussing something other than sportsball)
i smile and have small conversations to remain on the good side of everyone, but that's it
other than that, i just close my door and put my airpods in so that i don't have to listen to them (3 days in/2 days home)

the part i dislike the most: beginning of the day, just arrived, and everyone is marching around saying "GOOD MORNING!!!" like bruh i'm half asleep over here
i always just say "hello" or "hi" back
and it's not just the oldcels, there's a couple of younger guys that act like this too.
