I don't think you need to spend a set amount. Depends on your financial position and what you're ok with. I've never understood spending tons of money for a ring. I know plenty of people who have $10K+ rings and I personally wouldn't want that.

This, and if it does, then let it be a sign you’re marrying a superficial and materialistic person.

My wife and I could have afforded a bigger diamond in hers, but she has petite hands and the smaller diamond looked nicer and didn’t jump out as gaudy. She loves it.

I dropped $35k 10 years ago and im the type to think buying a ring not logical.
But i was ok with it because I only sought to marry a traditional girl......and with traditoin comes adhereing to some societal norms. So i had to take the good with the bad.

I came to the decision on the type, size and quality of ring by getting her something i thought was nice, something most would think is better than normal and something i think she would appreciate without screaming look at me (over the top).

My wife is very traditional, and I only spent $1200 on her ring+band. Funny thing is, you buy an expensive ring, if you walk right back into the jewelry store and try to sell it back they won't give you even half of what you paid.

First ring cost me like 8k

At 10 year mark traded it in for a 30k ring

Don’t see it going anymore than that, already makes wife nervous.

On the flip side, at the time she knew I was in to watches. So on our wedding day she surprised me with an AP ROO Rubberclad. The fact that she went out of her way to do the research on this meant a lot to me and it solidified my belief that I was marrying a person that was just as good with giving than she was with taking. Thats an important quality for me especially when you bring kids into the equation.

I dont even wear watches anymore, but I would never sell that one.

Jewelry can be seen as an investment. Make sure it’s quality though. The ring I bought was small, but it was very high quality. The diamonds and gold will appreciate over time, but it’s a long term investment, meaning, don’t expect to get a good return for at least 20 years

The issue is people buying jewelry they can’t afford. Most young people are in the poverty bracket, and move up out of poverty by 30, and peak at around 38-42 consider a smaller ring to start and decide later if you want to invest in something more.

Yeah I’d tend to agree with the idea of spending on a reputable jeweler as opposed to trying to get more “bang for my buck” from some lesser known place (I.e. more carats from a no name spot)

I don't give a fuk what other people think. Did I marry them or did I marry my wife of whom I'm going on 14 years with?

Let everybody else buy their mortgage payment rings that get pawned off 8 years later in the divorce. It's their marriage and not my business. Anyone who cares what ring I got my wife is either a woman or a ****g0t.

My ex told her mom she was going to have a 10k ring when she got married when she was a kid. So, I got her a 10k ring. At the time, 20 years ago, it was a lot of money to me.

At the time I asked my wife almost two decades ago, I was poor and bought an 1k ring. She didn’t care about the ring, it was me she wanted which is what should occur. Many years later when financial success came, I changed it out for one ten times the price. She wears both on and off but still loves the small 1k ring more because of what it means.

So who is getting the ring is massively more important than the price.
I probably banged your mom.
