Just going by the reports I've read and trying to understand what happened.

"The crime" involved two guys wrestling over a hammer, in their underwear, at 2:30 in the morning, in San Francisco, while the wife of one of them, who is a major public figure, was out of town.

Seems legit. Not staged at all. Thank God the police got there just in time!!
