Fair enough... it was fairly ambiguous... but from hearing it, it sounded to me like they were both at the door and one of them opened the door.. but the cops didn't identify or know which one opened it. But yes, I agree definitely poor reporting by Politico and NBC and it sounds like they are trying to twist it a little bit to make themselves look better even though they should have just quoted the police chief instead of reporting it the way they did.

The cop that did the press conference can't communicate clearly and needs to be placed in a different role. He also made it sound like they each had a hammer with "both holding a hammer," iirc.

I can see how it can be taken either way. Definitely needed more clarification, which the reporters should have gotten.

The third person thing was a reporting mistake from a fox affiliate, that got picked up by other outlets. Subsequently retracted, according to Smerconish radio show this morning.

Yeah they've pretty much butchered the entire thing. I believe that the police chief could have been clearer, however the reporters are the ones who really twisted the words a bit and ran to some conclusions that didn't directly align with what the police chief said. And then it was a domino effect with other outlets copying each other.
