What Is The Most Reliable Car you Ever Owned?

My family had a 1996 Honda Civic that took a huge beating. I got to use during high school and college, then it got passed on to my brother who also used it for school then it eventually got passed to my sister for school.

Parents had bought new from the dealer and had it ever since 2017 when it got into a huge accident. But throughout that time, it never needed major engine work or work on it. Was just some simple oil changes, brakes and rotors, radiator and thermostat.

Was fairly surprised on how long it lasted with nearly 170k miles on it and was still going strong.

2000 vw Jetta tdi. Put around 350,000 kms on it in 4 years, did next to no maintenance and treated it like crap. Sold it to some kid 4 years ago and still see it running around town

Current car is a mk7 VW GTI that I bought CPO. Car has never given me problems or even had a CEL. I make sure to keep up on maintenance meticulously.

Runner up is a 1997 GC8 2.2L Subaru Impreza I had as a spare car/winter beater. I bought the thing for $900, and while it wasn't the most reliable thing I've ever had, it would not die. Considering the cost, it was great value/reliability ratio. Wouldn't go into 2nd gear, needed new shocks, odometer didn't work, but it would simply not die. Thing prob had 300K miles on it. Eventually had to get rid of it because it wouldn't pass emissions and just wasn't worth the hassle.

2003 mustang cobra with 300k miles on it. owned it for 5 years never had a problem.

Bought a used Nissan Maxima in college that I beat up all the way to 389k miles before it was done. I think it was an 89 and I bought it at 175k miles iirc.

2003 Lexus Is300

Took good care of it maintenance wise, but only thing that ever happened was a failed door lock actuator.

Other than that, rock solid until some kunt totaled it @ 206k.

Their only downfall is they are trivial to steal with a simple flathead screwdriver, so I regularly came back to the parking lot to find them stolen

Absolutely… first three cars were 88 civic, 93 civic, and 95 Integra.. had constant issues with thefts/break ins

Cars were fukin soldiers though!

Tried to blow up the engine on my 93 civic (had a motor/tranny in garage waiting for install) and it just wouldn’t quit lol.

My old 2014 Jeep SRT had almost 80K miles. I bought it new, and the only issue was a tie rod went out, but that may have been due to it being lowered on the Eibach Pro kit. Wildly reliable for the type of rig it was, and the abuse I put it thru.
Previous 96 and 01 Tacomas, and 01 and 2010 Tundras all went to 100K'ish miles with no issues besides a fault Air Induction Pump on the 2010 Tundra.


Current:
2018 Tundra Platinum has 79.6K miles and not a single issue. May replace the brake pads when I get the oil changed at 80K miles.
2020 Jeep SRT only has 14K miles. Hoping it serves me as well as my 2014 did. Absolutely love the rigs.
2002 Ford Ranger - my wife's parents bought it new, my wife drove it for years after high school, and I bought it for my 17 year old son almost two years ago. Currently has over 250K miles and still on original motor / trans / etc. Leaks a little oil, loses a little coolant, AC doesnt work, couple rust spots / dents / some electronics dont work / etc. Perfect disposable teenager truck. Somehow my son hasnt killed it yet in almost two years of ownership (knock on wood). It will stay with me when he ships off for the Marines this summer, and will then go to my 15 year old to hopefully use until it blows up.

2000 Toyota Avalon, 387,000 miles and just couldn't make it to 400,000 which was my goal.

never had a reliable vehicle. always something cropping up, either something failing or just "something that model is known for" bull****. Makes me hardcore roll my eyes when people say "well if you take care of it then it will run forever" yeah no you stupid ******* changing the oil had ****all to do with any of my problems.

Had an old Nissan Sentra that I bought at 150k and had it until it hit 250. Never needed anything major besides oil changes and a transmission job at 200k, maybe one set of brakes as well. It was standard, and standard cars are generally built better in my opinion.

I’ve only owned one vehicle that isn’t a pickup but my W210 E class hasn’t given me any issues in the 18 months I’ve owned it and it’s old as ****

All Lexuses (Lexii?) are mega reliable but that 2 jay-z in particular is a beast of a motor

Husband drives a used (he’s the second owner) ‘13 4-door Honda Civic. The car runs like a dream. We purchased a Toyota Highlander a few months back. I’m praying I can drive that car forever lol.

Strong username to 2j knowledge as well.

It was a ****in beast.. it developed a slight valve cover gasket leak around 180k (nothing on the garage floor), but didn’t burn an amount that was appreciable between oil changes.

Not much top end in that thing, but Jesus it was smooth. Way more drivable as a daily than my isf

acura that almost had 300k not until my stupid neighbor totaled it. Is park in front my place and he hit my car and totaled it driving on residential.

Right now I have a lexus and is going on 250K miles

I don't own my vehicles that long but my most reliable was a dodge Cummins 1 ton truck. Followed by my tundra and current Chevy 3/4 ton.

Least reliable was a Nissan titan and an SRT Jeep.

98 Civic. Drove it for 10 years with almost no issues, and other family members drove it before that. Sold it about 9 months ago because the mileage was getting too high, but it was still running fine.

2000 Chevy suburban with the vortec. Ran it to 300k miles with no problems. It’s still being used as a wood hauler up in MN.

Current whip is a 2013 X5 with 80k miles. Haven’t had a single maintenance issue. Just oil changes, tires, brake pads and rotors that I did. Probably replace the spark plugs and air filters soon. A couple recalls one for a takata airbag and another for some sensor. Car still looks brand new and lifts skirts with the turbos.

Destroyed an SRT8 jeep off the line and gapped it by two car lengths in a stoplight to stoplight race. Had a fishing kayak on the roof as well.

Hard to decide between my 96 chevy S10 or my old 86 Mercury Grand Marquis. Both lasted close to 10 years. Repairs never went over $5k between them both in that whole time.
Going down on your cousin is like a non alcoholic beverage. Tastes the same, but just isn't right.

Like everything else in my life. I make the right decisions, and things turn out as expected. Only cars I've had issues with were cars that I bought knowing they had issues.

2jz are built well. It is no wonder they swap those and LS motors in a lot of cars.

I had zero issues with my 2jz, with the only exception of misfiring from burnt/cracked coil packs and wiring. But with the motor, that think can take a beating.

Seems like the consensus with reliability are:

Honda
Toyota
Chevy
VW
Ford

So BMWs, Mercedes and Audi's wouldn't be a good daily driver?

Was looking for some between the 3, more so leaning towards Audi.

My moms 96 Mitsubishi Galant. She had it for like 10 years before passing it to my brother who had it for 3 years before passing it to me where I had it for 6 more before it fell victim to the NE winters. It still drove good but it was so rusty that you couldn't get a jack under it without **** caving in. ~225k miles by the end and all the work it needed was just basic preventative maintenance (timing belt, fuel filter, ect) and wear and tear things. My brother beat the ever living crap out of the car, I wasnt easy on it either but it kept putting along. So many good memories in that thing.
