Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem spoke yesterday about a potential Canadian central bank digital currency (CBDC). Next year the bank plans to consult the public on a potential CBDC. Particularly they want to find out what the public’s expectations of a digital currency and what features would be important to them.

Announcing that they are doing a survey next year isn't a plan to institute a currency, as much as clickbait headlines might say so.

And if things move as quickly as they usually do in our country, by the time it goes through committees, surveys and a bunch of consultations it will be 2035 before anything actually happens.
