Did I go overboard with this gift for my nephew?

https://www.lego.com/en-us/product/lego-titanic-10294

He is 11 years old and my only nephew. I barely get to see him since he lives in Colorado and I live in Florida. I bought him the Maersk Triple-E Class containership Lego set when it came out and he just finished it so I bought this and a flight out to Colorado to spend a week out there with him building it and hanging out.

Do you think my siblings are going to be pissed at me?

Overboard and Titanic Lego set, you're one cheeky kunt m8. Naaaah, you didn't go overboard. It'll be some good quality time spent with your nephew.

I'm trying to imagine myself in their shoes, if my kid got this.

No, I don't think there's any reason to be pissed at you or think less of you, that's incredibly generous. However, if that kid has siblings, you probably want to buy something, at least a small thing, for them too.

I'd say you did good then!

To be on the safe side, yes you could say "it's from the whole family" the kid and everyone else will probably know that you're the reason for it, and you protect the ego of everyone else involved. Win/win.

Am sure he'll love it but in no way is that thing worth $680, especially being downsized from the generic legoman size like that.

Yeah I think this is the plan. I’m a Merchant Mariner so ships are kinda my thing and he knows what’s good.

Tempted to Venmo request from all my siblings and use the money to buy him the accessory LED light kit.

I kinda fear they would be pissed but I more so feared that none of them would buy him anything as we are all spread out across the country and none of them plan to visit him over the holidays. I just want him to know he’s loved.

Pretty cool OP..but spending so much on an 11 yr old that will most likely forget about it within a couple months might not have been the wisest decision. But hey, it's your money, and if he is crazy about legos than you certainly outshined the entire fam.

I just mean it looks like the boat is too small for the standard lego dudes. Look at the interior rooms and etc, and just the entire thing is 18 inches.

It's gay.

Now put a top on.
I actually asked my sister if he would get use out of a “ninja suit” base layer for skiing/snowboarding which was $90 and she came back with this idea since I bought him the other Lego ship and he was actively working on it when we were texting. So I don’t think she’s gonna be mad.
