I notice they dismiss the Bangladesh study because it's Bangladesh. Lolz. Oh yes let me spend the entire weekend splitting hairs with you about one insignificant number vs. another insignificant number.

As the Cochrane library analysis said, little to no benefit. That shouldn't be hard to grasp.
The data and code are all available and the results are reproducible.

The study in the OP is being presented as though it was conclusive. However, it was inconclusive and not focused on covid.

Additionally, since an R value of 1.0 is a critical point, a 19% reduction is a meaningful effect size.

No. You just can't accept defeat, which is why you get on here and furiously type out half of the posts in a Covid thread for hours.

If you have that kind of time you have less than 10 minutes for Dr. Vinay Prasad, an oncologist and professor of epidemiology at Stanford. Pay close attention to the comparison he gives.

Discussion and elaboration on the available evidence isn't a victory/defeat dichotomy.

Thanks for the video, but I prefer to discuss the evidence directly rather than a YouTuber's opinion.

Don't wear masks, they do little to nothing to help was what they said right out the gate when COVID first started. Then they said they only said that because health care proffesionals were having a shortage and running out.

The 18th, 19th and 20th century taught you to not trust governments with more authority and power.

It's the 21st century and people keep repeating the same mistake.

yes, all the data shows a mask does not stop viral transmission..we have been through this.

A virus spreads through aerosol transmission & only low infectious dose is needed.

-Aerosol transmission of influenza A virus: a review of new studies
Raymond Tellier. J R Soc Interface. 2009.

“This distinction of ‘short-range aerosol transmission’ is not merely academic; aerosolized particles would readily penetrate or circumvent ordinary surgical masks, and penetration of aerosolized influenza viruses into the LRT where they can initiate infection would account well for the association of aerosol transmission and severe disease.”

I just shared a study, the results, and all of the code and data used to draw that inference.

You said their data suggest a different conclusion. Are you willing to share the code demonstrating the opposite inference?

you shared studies for Covid..which unfortunately has become politicized

I can share studies as well. Back in May of 2020 the CDC released the results of 14 individual studies conducted by various universities and medical institutions on the effectiveness of the mask in preventing the spread or preventing contracting the influenza virus, which is 220 nm's on average. The results were all the same. Neither did the mask slow down or prevent the spread of the virus nor did it prevent or slow down the infection rate of the virus. So if the masks do nothing for the influenza virus why would it be effective against a much smaller virus?

CDC- Volume 26, Number 5—May 2020
Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures

https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/eid/article/26/5/19-0994_article

“In our systematic review, we identified 10 RCTs that reported estimates of the effectiveness of face masks in reducing laboratory-confirmed influenza virus infections in the community from literature published during 1946–July 27, 2018. In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks (RR 0.78, 95% CI 0.51–1.20; I2 = 30%, p = 0.25)”

They don’t even attempt a fitting for men with facial hair. You’re given a hood instead. If you have a beard, it’s virtually useless.

Nope.

I shared a specific study along with a link to the data and code used for the study I shared.

You replied to my post sharing the link and said the data support an opposite conclusion.

I asked if you you'd be willing to share the code that demonstrates your conclusion.

You the responded with the above quote.

Those are the facts. Do you agree?

Doesn't matter bro. I've worn a surgical maskee night and day for the last 3 years and it's kept me from dying. Driving alone in my Prius, maskee is on. Walking alone in the woods, maskee is on. Even though I've gotten covid 3 times, between the maskee and my 5 jabs, I've stayed alive. Not everyone can say that...

Srs though, if you are still wearing a mask at this point, you obviously are better looking with it compared to without it...

as a student of science, I for one am SHOCKED that putting a piece of cloth fabric over your mouth did not significantly alter infection rates. I am also shocked the blue masks that people re-used 20 times improperly didn't really change things either.

im still convinced most people wanted to wear them because it gave them a seemingly level over control over preventing infection that was otherwise out of their control.

Thanks for the video, but I prefer to discuss the evidence directly rather than a YouTuber's opinion.
He's an oncologist and professor of epidemiology at Stanford, not some random 'youtuber' trapped in a basement. He understands why the people trying to dismiss the Cochrane analysis are silly biches. And he actually understands real world implications from both epidemiology and seeing patients regularly. You want to split hairs between very insignificant and extremely insignificant, as you can't differentiate the real world difference between the numbers. I can tell from your posts you've never spent a minute in a clinical setting besides being a patient, nor worked on any medical studies. Rather your knowledge has happened by learning little bits and pieces here and there during Covid.

You will continue beating a dead horse argument you are wrong about for whatever reasons. There are many reasons people refuse to accept being wrong, so I could only speculate your reasons. Responding to your posts is a waste of time. It's like talking shop with someone that's never actually done any repairs on cars, but has read a few things about repairs.
