from what he said he was an energy trader (like stock trader but for utilities), asked for a 5% raise...they didn'tt give it to him so he started his own firm. and in such a small world I'm sure it was just about calling all his clients and them immediately jumping ship....which is a huge advantage to start out with.
I actually worked at that place for a while (not in the trading division cuz I'm a loser tard) so I know how much they could make. very few firms control that entire industry...oligopoly??? I think is the word.

I only watched the first few minutes but I'll watch the rest when I get some free time. So he became a billionaire from investing in stocks? Is that pretty much the gist of it or am I missing something?

Before that he joined the navy and was a nuclear engineer, after that he got an MBA. Then he worked at Excel energy and got fired for asking for a raise, so he started trading energy on his own. He says electricity is the most volatile commodity and the most predictable since it follows the law of physics... Meaning he can predict how the markets gonna move then make a chitload off of it
I think that's the gist of it. He also made money while in the navy investing in the stock market since it was multiplying money at the time

Steps to Success
1. Set clear-cut, defined, lofty goals, with specific time deadlines, and let everyone know what they are.
2. Always be realistic, skeptical, and never too optimistic. Banish wishful and hopeful thinking. Hope is not a strategy.
3. Get your priorities straight and live them every day.
4. Focus on actions, not words. Talk less and do more!
5. Always stay organized. Utilize a Calendar and a To-Do List.
6. Have a daily schedule and write it down and follow it and run your life and career like an absolute CEO.
7. Always stay focused on completing your goals.
8. Figure out the things that you need to get the job done and get them.
9. Utilize ALL available resources.
10. Prepare - and make your life easier.
11. Take care of the downside and the upside will take care of itself.
12. Maximize your options.
13. Deliver the goods. Just get the job done - no matter what it takes.
14. Don’t be afraid to take smart chances - and educated risks - sometimes you just got to go for it. Fortune favors the bold and the brave!
15. Plan your work and work your plan.
16. Do tasks as soon as they hit you, then they never build up and overwhelm you.
17. Continually monitor and evaluate your progress in accomplishing your goals and take corrective action if needed.
18. Use whatever angle you have.
19. Move to where the opportunities are!
20. Realize that there’s a back door into anything, but few take advantage of it. Use the back door if the front door is locked!
21. Don’t make excuses for your success or failure - realize that it’s all up to you.
22. Understand that everything has a price - nothing in this world is free. Success does not come without sacrifice.
23. Understand that nobody can do it for you - you have to do it yourself.
24. Surround yourself with successful people. Especially those who are more successful than you. Avoid the losers.
25. Learn from others who are where you want to be. COPY from them! Don’t try to reinvent the wheel! COPY from those that are successful!
26. Be very careful of who you trust.
27. Be loyal and good to those who have been loyal and good to you. Don’t forget those that helped you and gave you a chance and an opportunity.
28. Help and teach others along the way to be successful.
29. Get ready for change. It’s coming whether you like it or not – sometimes how and when you least expect it. Anticipate and prepare for it.
30. Understand that life will throw you curveballs – it’s all part of the game. You will be humbled at some point. We are all humbled at some point.
31. Know when to cut your losses.
32. Know when to pivot.
33. Ask all the questions – don’t go into anything blind.
34. If you get knocked down, get up and keep fighting!
35. Keep an open mind on everything. Closed minds never learn.
36. Learn from your mistakes and don’t repeat them!
37. Ride and appreciate a good situation until the wheels come off! If it isn’t broke, don’t try to fix it! Don’t get too greedy. Stick with what works until it doesn’t work anymore, then make changes accordingly. Know that the grass is always greener on the other side. Be careful what you wish for, you might just get it. Be careful of the Devil you don’t know. Go into everything with your eyes open.
38. Don’t try to live anyone else’s dream. Go after your own.
39. Realize that success is a numbers game. Activity, Activity, Activity!
40. Be Likeable – Don’t be an a**hole. People will want to help you if they like you!
41. Always think about the future but try to enjoy and appreciate the moment. Life is short. Have fun.

Have fun.
4. Focus on actions, not words. Talk less and do more!4. Focus on actions, not words. Talk less and do more!
