RIP Tradies: Ford flies patent to remotely repossess their delinquent leased F150s

I can only imagine how many trucks will be driving themselves back to the dealership!
Ford is attempting to patent car “repossession” technology that would allow the automaker to remotely lock down vehicles or shut off key features like air conditioning if the owner misses payments, according to newly surfaced filings.

According to the patent application, the technology would be used in the event that drivers ignore “notice(s) of delinquency of a vehicle-related payment” that are sent to their phones or their vehicle computer systems.
Sad!
Cruise control, automated window and seat controls, air conditioning systems, remote key fobs and automated door locking systems are among the features that could be disabled through the technology, according to Ford’s filing.

“Disabling such components may cause an additional level of discomfort to a driver and occupants of the vehicle,” the filing says.

Imagine if they came out with a remote lock for the center console, so delinquent tradies can’t get to their Grizzly Wintergreen Long Cut 5 pack.

Ford is the worst fuking company ever. Can imagine how many tradies are going to be driving around in 100+ degrees F weather with their windows down out of principle.

It is pretty easy for me to believe the government will be in full control of all new vehicles being made in our lifetimes, and at some point older vehicles will either be required to be modified, or will not be street legal.

It's worse than that.

This is so they can charge you a monthly fee for your air conditioning.

Buddy's truck died, had to get a new one. All week long telling me about how his budget is 20k, its gotta be 4x4 and theres just no need to be one of these guys paying out the nose for a new truck. End of the week he is in a 2022 colorado, 30k, 4ft bed, no 4x4. "Got a deal" on it because its usually a few more grand lmao. Same guy was about to pull from his 401k for gas money 2 years ago and when I said "use your emergency fund" he had a blank stare and angrly said I dont have one! When I asked him how he manages his money the other day out of concern he told me he has a guy that manages it for the family and he trusts him. LMAO some people are so lost it would take an hour of honest discussion just to realize the situation they are in, let alone steps for improvement. Other buddy thought "the market" dictated interest rates followed by asking me what "the federal reserve was"....he is 28. Other buddy is 32 and only has a checking account no retirement or investing. His GF was bragging about her county job and the benefits and how she is set for retirement and shes only in her 30's. I asked her 401k numbers and she said just shy of 50k....lmao these are all college educated people who I have first hand seen acomplish intellegent things. People get dumb as rocks the second money is involved.

The average American is lost. Its over boyos, just make sure the blood in the streets isnt yours.

I could go on for days with examples I've seen IRL.

Everyone has been sold the idea of doing life on debt. It starts with a student loan when you're 18 and ends when you die.

This was a cultural revolution that began when we exited the gold standard. Today we are in the full-blown mature world of it, where doing it any other way is considered weird or unheard of.

I just finished Henry ford's autobiography and you would be mind=blown at how different the mindset was back then. Late 1800/ early 1900 america was truly peak civilization.

So no credit check for an 84 month loan (to help a certain demographic) and then self driving repo settings (which demographic has highest amount of repos?). Hmm.... Who is ford ****ing here LOL

We all know how based Henry Ford was.
The correlation you're trying to make would make sense if it was Dodge and they were doing it with Challengers/Charges/1500's but I just don't see it with Ford.

Correct. Ford is just the first company to give it a shot and see if it works. If it gets approved you can bet the other companies will follow. Monkey see, monkey do.

the smartest way out is to stop paying and let the 7 years ride out...instead of halting your savings rate and pouring it into high CC debt.

would rather have cash coming in and a hosed credit score than zero cash coming in and still have a hosed credit score

I see more people driving trucks that never put anything in the bed or tow anything.
they treat them like giant ass cars.
but have a cubicle job and 9yr terms on the loan.

I don't think it's going to be the tradies who fail to pay their trucks off based on how much they charge to work on your house.
