Police have discretion of what they believe to be “harms way”, necessary, and reasonable. If you don’t have total control over someone’s arm while they are swinging a knife at you, well within stabbing distance, things are likely going to end badly. Coupled with the fact that it looks like she is high on something, she was likely delusional too.

As usual there is some room for nuance. The cop probably could have done a better job controlling her when she was down initially. Once she was up and charging, she had chosen her fate.

Knives are no joke. Even a small blade can quickly become a lethal weapon. I suspect most of the tough guys in this thread have zero knowledge or experience facing bladed weapons.

If he had her restrained and the knife arm subdued then moving off was a stupid idea. I wouldn't be surprised if he did because he was afraid of using a control hold and her making claims of excessive force or something and she would probably be believed despite the video evidence because she is a woman. I watched both defense and offense guides.

The offense guide says to use "stabbing" motions instead of "slashing" motions because "stabbing" quickly does not allow the opponent to block or grab you if they want to avoid the point.
