Or is it permanently dead?

Rock had a huge resurgence in the 90s thanks to Nirvana, but starting in the 00s it fell off a cliff. By the mid-00s it was critically endangered and today as a mainstream genre it is extinct. There have been a few one hit wonders here and there since 2010, but I can't even remember the last major rock act.

What killed rock? Just out of ideas? Too much effort (easier to just get on a MacBook and create the next hit)? Demographic changes?

Probably not. Maybe we’ll have a new genre that has rock influence. We’ll move forward, not backwards.

Is it possible that Rock was so popular a genre in the 60’s and 70’s that it became played-out? There was so much genius music created, it’s difficult to fathom if you look back.

I might be talking out my ass but that’s what it seems like to me. The peak was already reached. It’s like classical music. Nobody will ever surpass the masters of hundreds of years ago.

Music peaked in the 2000s. There's a nu-metal nostalgia, with bands like Turnstile, but it'll never be huge again.

There's still good rock out there but it doesn't get promoted as hard.

Real rock has R&B influences and has a certain amount of soul to it. Too much generic chit like Foo Fighters drown out the real talent.

Lol at huge resurgence thanks to Nirvana

It never fell off before Nirvana. Rock was constantly big for decades but started fading in the second half of the 90s as millennials started to reach consumer age, driving the music industry in a more estrogen filled direction. This accelerated even more with zoomers. Gen x was the twilight of high test society

Hair/glam metal to many people was killing rock music. Nirvana bought rock music another decade.

Rock isn't dead, only buried, and will stay so as long as your children are being groomed by Lib elves to hate themselves; the amount of white zoomies that listen to degenerate low-IQ rap is mind boggling

They're trying to destroy the Western world from within; you do that by perverting women & children because they're easy to manipulate

Nah its dead.

Just the fact the media can only interview the same old 50yo+ characters makes me think it ain't coming back.

not to mention its all a bunch of memes and tropes about boomers.

Surprisingly metal is making a bit of a comeback. Heavy stuff that was more niche during the peak of metal popularity

Never. The closest comeback for rock is that it has merged with trap music in a way. A lot of these new school auto tune rappers like Lil Uzi Vert, Post Malone and Trippie Red incorporate a lot of rock influence in music. It’s absolute garbage and ph@ggy as fuk, but these kids grew up listening to Marilynn Manson and Lil Wayne so the result is a chitty combo of the two styles that has caught on with depressed Zoomers.

yesterday me and the family were at a music festival.

we have a toddler who can't speak yet. so he definitely isn't brainwashed to like certain music yet. the kids were dancing to some beats. we were making videos having a good time.

then some boomer rocker got on stage and started playing rock music. the kids looked confused and couldn't dance to it. crowd dispersed and started leaving lol

we left after the first song

that's when i realized Rock ain't never coming back. you have to be brainwashed to like it.

Rock was never a kid focused genre brah.

It's rebellious and energy filled sound fit well with TEENS who liked being angsty and breaking things. Blink 182 and other whitewashed punk bands perfected this to the tee for the masses so girls and casuals could enjoy it. Key is young people need to perform it(not a boomer like Dave grohl lol).

When edgy cool teens start thinking punk rock is cool again it will come back. Hell, millennial hipsters made raw Americana bluegrass/folk music huge in the late 2000s early 2010s (Mumford and sons, Iron and wine, etc). That was unexpected but it happened.

It will come back eventually. In a different form...but it will be back.

Boomers will listen to classic rock until they die, they're set in their ways. But for young people who used to like rock music, I feel like you either switch to whatever is popular at the time (currently degenerate "hip hop" garbage) or move on to metal. No one wants to keep listening to foo fighters type of chit forever
