just keeping tabs on flashscore. not able to watch. how is alcaraz getting so worked? from the point by point, seems djokovic is playing every single point and grinding him down. looks likes alcaraz knows he can't hang and is just giving up from what i see.

At 1-1 Alcarez got calf cramps, had the physio come on and got penalized for it and lost the game because of it. After that he was compromised and couldn't really deliver at all. He just couldn't handle Djoko's grinding style physically and his body broke down.

ah i see. i'll watch the highlights when they are available.

what do you think if Ruud/Zverev? 5 set grinder? I want to bet against Zverev thinking he'll choke but i'm not sure yet.

head to head is like 3-1 i think and zverev beat him pretty handily in the past (not that that really matters, every match is diff)

Don't really know enough about either guy to make a good prediction. Haven't been able to follow the tourney enough cuz I'm in an American timezone. I just try to turn in for the really great matches like this one today. I know the bookies have it pretty much 50/50. Hope it'll be a banger at least.

Used to be a big Federer fanboy but Djoko has been kind of growing on me. Wouldn't mind to see him take home another grand slam.

just looked at fed's grand slam record during the match, djokovic and nadal kept beating him. had so many opportunities to add to his total towards the end but just couldn't.

yeah, pretty much a toss up between ruud/zverev. i think ruud is +.5 games.

Because Fed is older than Djokodal by 6 year. During Fed's peak Nadal was able to beat Fed, and Fed was able to beat Djokovic. But as Fed got older, Nole started beating Fed and then Federer beat Nadal in literally every match after 2014. Lol

yeah for sure. for awhile it was fed beats nadal, djoko beats fed, nadal beats djoko.

Murray was kind of in the mix too for a few years. It feels like we've had quite a few grand slams with all of those 4 names in the semis, every single time. I don't even necessarily think Fed got worse after his most successful years, I just think Djoko really did get a lot better.

I remember Djokovic getting attacked for his body breaking down way back in the day when he was a youngster. I think it was at the AO in '08 or '09 or something like that.

Not great matches today. It was kind of interesting watching Alcaraz try to work around being hardly able to move. Not that it worked in the end, but he won more points than you might've expected.

Novak is the GOAT and it's not even really that close tbh.

And after the behaviour of Fed/Nadal in the last few years I'm glad he is.

He'll never get the respect/recognition he deserves but he absolutely outperformed both those guys.

Looking back you'd have to say Nadal underachieved at Wimbledon. 2012-2017 lost to all those journeymen outside the Top 100 + Kyrgios and had pre-comeback Novak on the ropes in 2018. Ditto for Oz where the slower HC surface perfectly suited his game. Should have won at least a couple more there. Wawrinka had never taken a set off him before that 2014 final.

Novak underachieved at the US Open with 3 wins from 10 finals + losing to Nishikori in the 2014 semis.

Federer would regret not sorting himself out a year or two earlier and cashing in 2002-2003. Thomas Johansson 2002 AO. Hewitt 2002 Wimbledon. Sampras 2002 US Open who never played another match. Roddick 2003 US Open. Nadal free RG from 2002-2004 — Costa, JC Ferrero, Gaudio.

Lots of what ifs. Given the history of tennis all of them would've been undisputed GOAT if the other 2 weren't around. 3 guys winning 20+ slams in basically one and a half eras is nuts. I wonder if any of them would've even been that dominant without the other two really pushing them to the limits.

Was a shame cause there was some hectik tennis there in the second set.

Including one absolutely out of this world shot produced by Alcaraz. Might be the one of the best, if not the best shot I’ve ever seen live.

Started off slow but finally picked up steam and won the second, until that cramp happened.

Good question. It's interesting how Nadal was Federer's kryptonite but then Djokovic became an even bigger problem for Nadal.

Novak literally got the easiest draw in history lmao. Same with his last several slams. They've literally been the equivalent of winning an ATP 250 event.

Obviously he's an ATG but peak Fed is still better, and I've been watching tennis since 2004. They don't make them like they used to

Fed dominated the weakera of 2003-2007 as all the stars were fading & mental midget Roddick couldn't cope. Hewon two slams from 2010 to 2016, in that period both Murray & Wawrinka won three each-GOAT, yeah sure-he was the best for five years. Only won RG because Nadal got injured.

Objectively in terms of numbers, Novak is the GOAT. However, I would argue that Federer is the most elegant player of all time. No one can and will take that away from him imo.
