Retired US Navy submariner reveals Titan sub was likely descending faster than planned

During an interview with WFLA NOW’s J.B. Biunno, Retired US Navy Submariner Mark Martin revealed that one of his sources reported the missing Titan submersible was trying to release ballast before they lost communication with the surface.

“One of my sources has reported that about the time that they lost comms, or just before they lost comms, they reported they were trying to release ballast,” Martin said. “What that means to me is they were heavy. They were descending faster than they were supposed to. So they were trying to get rid of weight.”

Martin said there were several factors that could have prompted the crew to release ballast. Among those are malfunctioning propellers or a leak in the hull. At this time, it is unknown what caused the sub to slip below the waves.

“If you’re descending too fast, that can cause excess stress on certain parts of the vehicle,” Martin added. “The reason you descend in a controlled manner is so that everything in the vehicle has the ability to acclimate to the increased pressure.”

How fast could it sink? So likely just died on impact or even before (wouldn't equipment need to adjust the inside to keep it pressurized or does that not change anything when going deeper)

Good. It's cold comfort but hopefully the families can experience a little relief knowing their loved ones weren't in agony for days.

The mothership also fled northeast as they were trying to drop ballast to get out of the way for when it re surfaced, They went back to launch location some hours later.

Also explains why they were banking and puting so many recourses on it being on the surface as they were dumping everything they had on there way down.

They likely knew the fate day 1, What an absolute piece of siht.

Those internet guys tracking this siht were not wrong. They new the found something. Also explains why the French dumped there ROV right next to the Canadians.

If the debris is related to the sub, dropped weight or anything, surely the sub did not go far from there?

I wonder if the 5 people aboard weighed significantly more than any other crew that was ever on board, or if that would even be a possible factor for causing an uncontrolled descent.

The new debris field near the Titanic must be significant since they've extensively mapped and 3d scanned Titanic's debris field over the years.

Probably not at that depth. Pressure reduces buoyancy as the air pockets inside the material would be compressed to nothing. Neoprene is buoyant at the surface, not so much at depth.

An average air filled neoprene suit will lose approximately ½ of its buoyancy at the depth of 33 feet, ⅔ at the depth of 66 feet. At 100 feet it will effectively become crushed and lose almost all of its buoyancy (as well as thermal isolation properties).

So if it was descending faster than expected was this thing never tested prior to putting in a crew of dummies?

Adding in 5 people is a change in weight but I would assume they would account for the weight of the passengers but then again the damn thing seems to be built with cutting corners at every angle lol

Literally could be anything-the Titanic wreck itself makes noises like that, as do all other wrecks. Just think of it like your house where you hear creaks & other things due to pipes expanding etc. Likely also sharks/whales/dolphins/other large marine life banging into them.

So the banging at exactly every 30 mins was what?

Also, how hard is it to figure out what the debris is from? The thing doesn't have that many parts and they all look like it could be nothing else. In b4 the logitech controller is shown on top of the titanic as proof.
