It costs me about 8-10$ to charge off peak when I’m around ~56% after a day of work commuting and going 80+ on highway

Coming from a gas
Guzzler getting 17 mpgs (with the same car
Payment amount)… this is life on easy
Mode. Real savings. Plus I have solar.

Just lol at people scared to make the switch to Tesla and are commutecels like me.

Thank you Elon

Home charging is a must otherwise I don’t recommend it

Plug in car when get
Home keep off peak charging setting and wake
Up fully charged at the cheapest electricity Rates. Don’t even think about the range anymore
Look, i know i don't really know you and all, and i know you probably hear this like everyday, but your just so perfect to me. The few hours we talked were really great even if the convo was stale, your really pretty and chill, and your country thats just perfect :'D i really dont know how to explain it, but i think i have feelings for you somehow. i never felt like this with someone i just met, but i felt the need to get it off my chest. sorry for being all weird just idk how to explain it D:

The issue in my state isn't home charging, that's the easy part. It's impossible to base trips around here on where chargers will be. NJ has absolutely jack chit for chargers.

When will EVcels learn that when the electric grid goes down, cars running on gas will be on the road and EVs will be left rotting

lots of "ifs"
- have home charging.
- short to medium commute(you didn't say how many miles you commute round trip)
- Work maybe or maybe not have free or paid charging
- have solar to offset costs from home charging.
- don't live in cold weather city 5 months out of the year
- have a 2nd car that's gas for weekend or multi-day road trips

i'm not debating that it can't be a good car for the right person, the right lifestyle etc..

Or Covid lockdowns or whatever type of lockdown they will come up with. Maybe they'll limit you to within a 15 minute drive of your home? the possibilities of control are endless.

The best part is people can pretend they care about the environment when the realty is the battery life is usually limted to 10 year's. The joy the people will have when they go to replace their batteries and realize the cost of the battery is more than the car due to depreciation , they might as well buy a brand new tesla or EV and throw away the old one which can be "recycled" which is code for being shipped to China and dumped in landfill or the ocean.

Damn OP what were you driving that was getting 17mpg? My sedan gets about 30, SUV gets 25, minivan just over 20. EVs can be a good choice if you are just a regular work commuter. For someone in sales or other jobs that require going to multiple places a day not so much, especially in the winter. I'll give it a serious thought when Toyota is selling their solid state battery cars in 2027.

100 miles round trip.

My house came with solar installed

I don’t road trip past my max range tbh.

Can make it to SD from LA with plenty of range left. Good enough for me.

I have 6.3k free Supercharging miles remaining. Started out with 10k free miles.

In my situation it made a lot of sense to go electric. I am the textbook customer.

And ideally I would have a second gas car like a type r or gr Corolla for the days off and road trips.

Perhaps one day I can have another ICE

For right now the savings are insane

Certainly fits that cali lifestyle. I'm in CA too and only commute 1-2 days a week and don't mind filling gas tank every 2 weeks between a V8 sedan and a V8 truck. In the bay area sometimes it feels like half the cars are electric. Tesla about 80% with the rest being Lucid/rivian/kia's and hyndai.

Another thing worth mentioning is with Ford/GM being able to use superchargers there's gonna be incentive for expanding the network more than it already is, so within a few years finding a place to charge wont even remotely be an issue. It already isn't, but gonna improve even further

Maybe you aren't spending as much on fuel but it's not about money savings because....

because this isn't a money saving strategy. I'm glad you like your car because EV's have a lot of things going for them. It's just all this about people think they just found a life hack to get away from fuel prices and going to find out the hard way.

This. It may not work for everyone, but if it does work (ample amount of charging stations mild weather) why not take advantage of it?

Also, noone says that you can ONLY have EV's if you get an EV. My boss drives his tesla as his daily commuter, but has a Raptor that he takes to the lake/beach.

Congratulations on coming out as gay now you own a Tesla.

But spending 50k on one to save a few bucks a week on gas is freaking retarded. Do you even do math?

There’s no maybe bro. I went from $400 a month sometimes close to $500 with commuting + days off trips and now I’m probably paying like nothing to drive with my solar production. My electric bill is mostly my AC.

No oil changes no gas, brakes last forever due to regenerative braking, no transmission fluids, no smog checks none of that bs.

Virtually no maintence expenses. Except tires.

A Tesla in MY situation and location (socal). Has saved me a few thousand by now. Because I do drive a lot. I have 12k miles after about 7 months.

Do the math with a car that gets 16-25 mpgs and add like 3-4 oil changes in there for 12k miles. And incorporate a ~5.50 gas for premium fuel. Report back. Lmfaoooo

A lot of this thread is pure COPE. The fact is a RWD M3 could be a perfect beater and hella cheap after incentives and gas/maintence savings. And you get 100k warranty.

It’s just basic math brah.

Too much copium ITT

And lol at doomsdays scenarios as if gas stations wouldn’t be ran through by the mob as soon as things go south.

Cope

COPEEEE

Also my car payment is in the 600s lol.

Nice try. I have the base model Tesla.

But yet you buy new and then trade in within the 36K mile mark. That's huge depreciation. Maybe you like the car, cool, but it's not saving money.

Next thing you are going to say is that the Tesla batteries last a really long time and that they don't break down. I've been hearing that it only cost a couple grand to replace the batteries. Hearing that from unanimous sources on the net, fanboys, ect. I know some guys that work at the service department at a Tesla "dealer" and have heard otherwise. Outside of that, I'm an EV tech as part of the role at work and when EV's break, they are expensive to fix, and you can't just go to autozone to get the parts.

i know at times every penny adds up...especially when you're young and trying to get ahead. but at 20mpg driving 15k miles a year gas is around $2,200. so that's the max savings a tesla could produce. maybe it cost $500 to charge it at home so that $1,700/year.

is it worth a $1,700/year premium to be able to fill up in 3 minutes? to drive as far as you want while "recharging" to full in 3 minutes? "recharging" stations being available on every block? no worries about plugging in? to know you don't have a battery degrading your driving range as the years go by?

I can pretty much count on a toyota or honda to basically perform close to new at 200k miles and still be worth $6-7k+. could i count on a tesla for 3-4 more years at 200k miles?

20 mpgs on a 10 gallon tank (hypothetical) is 200 miles per tank

Cali gas is 5.10 or so. For midgrade top tier

It will take 750 gallons to go 15000 miles at 20mpg

That’s 3.8k a year just to drive your car bro.

Do you even math????

And if you have a big ass suv with 20 gallon tanks good luck too at 15 mpgs.

The savings aren’t minimal.

Like I said Tesla Isn’t for everyone. If you don’t have home charging (since home charging is a lot cheaper than supercharging), the savings aren’t as good. And it is a pain having to charge on the street for an hour.

But for me? The savings are massive.

we don't all live in cali bro...do you even geography? gas is $3.06 for me with 5% back from my cc...so around $2.85/gallon. my truck has a 20 gallon tank and gets about 23mpg so a 460 mile range. that's $1,858/year on fuel at 15k miles. tesla would save me about a grand/year while having none of the "luxuries" via easy "recharging"/range that my gas powered truck has.

Apologies bro didn’t know you live in Wyoming or wherever tf you live with those gas prices.

When you adjust for cost of living and minimum wage 1k a year is a lot when minimum wage is like 7.50

The savings would be around 1300. Without your 5% CC you’re basically paying 2k a year just to drive your truck. And that’s assuming you do all highway miles at 60mph because you and I both know you’re not getting 23mph consistently.

Etc
Look, i know i don't really know you and all, and i know you probably hear this like everyday, but your just so perfect to me. The few hours we talked were really great even if the convo was stale, your really pretty and chill, and your country thats just perfect :'D i really dont know how to explain it, but i think i have feelings for you somehow. i never felt like this with someone i just met, but i felt the need to get it off my chest. sorry for being all weird just idk how to explain it D:
