Blame, yes. Shame, no.

You can everyone it's safe, but one look at it should make everyone skeptical. The waivers should be a red flag. And the number of issues it had experienced prior are more.

These guys didn't care.

If Oceangate has another sub, i bet there are people that are willing to go downin it today.
Carbon fiber is insanely strong depending on how its laid up. You also have to factor in manufacturability. Whats easier to manufacture? A titanium tube wound in carbon fiber, or somehow getting your hands on a 2ft thick titanium tube?

They already use carbon fiber wound steel tanks in the aerospace industry for holding things like rocket propellant. The boeing jet you fly on is also a pressurized aluminum tube wrapped in carbon fiber

[img]https://www.esa.int/var/esa/storage/images/esa_multimedia/images/2016/11/carbon-fibre-reinforced_polymer/16539448-1-eng-GB/Carbon-fibre-reinforced_polymer_pillars.pimg]

I think the problem here is that they obviously didn't lay it up right lmfao. Im not an engineer, but the fiber would be great if there was internal pressure pushing out rather than external pressure pushing in.

A good way to picture it would be to think about pulling some zipties on your wrist apart. Very difficult. The inverse of that is telling someone to squeeze a looped zip tie. Very easy. You could drop a forklift on that rocket tank and it would be crushed to shreds. Try driving a forklift out of that tank.
In one of the interviews, James said carbon is fine for internal pressure, i.e. holding rocket propellant

It is not fine for external pressure, i.e. the ocean trying to crush you from the outside

What if any role the front hatch had did catch my attention when I saw how careless they were when fastening it.

1.) What grade bolts where they using? How many torque cycles had they already been through if any? New hardware every use I would hope is mandatory. In reality the proper fastening of a bolt is measured in bolt stretch...not torque. Torque is just what it takes for that fastener to reach the determined required axial bolt stretch. Point being...a fastener stretches after just one use.

2.) Where the bolts torqued in a stat pattern? Was the wrench used in one continuous motion (static vs kinetic friction when tightening)?

3.) Where the threads clean so that fasteners were not over/under torqued?

Just a few things you need to pay attention to on such a critical application

The fact alone that redundancies were not part of the design is alarming. Redundancy is literally engineering 101. I of course would wish no harm to the CEO but his video's were red flags with his demeanor towards the design and it's simplicity and economical approach.

My biggest questions moving forward from a design perspective.....would be what failed to cause the implosion, and why did dropping ballast fail? They should have been able to release ballast and begin to ascent at a drop of a hat if needed. Such as if descending at too high of a rate.

They questioned whether the sharks were being attracted by the sounds or whether they were just "false pings coming from the submarine itself".

One of the sharks, named by the company as Simon, was thought to be in the area this morning where the submersible went down.

He’s an explorer, his passions don’t really have anything to do with his fame and fortune. Big Ern just mentioned that he got into filmmaking to further fund his excursions. If he could explore just as much, without the spotlight, I’m pretty sure he would choose that scenario instead.

That was Titanic. Before that he made movies such as Aliens and Terminator. It just seems that these rich and famous guys have side projects like space rockets and deep sea exploring, and Maynard James Keenan, the singer of TOOL, owns a winery.

I have a question, misc. After noticing a lot of hatred and mocking from the general public, I need to know why do so many people hate billionaires? Is it jealousy?

"Eat the Rich" sounds like something a lazy, entitled Liberal would say. Am I wrong?

Also, why is there open hatred for 50 year old white guys? Why are they being bypassed for younger, more diverse and less experienced people, especially when our lives depend on it?

I'm only 6 years away from 50, and fear how intense the hatred for me will be, even though I'm not a billionaire.
