I'm still here, I've still been feeling sick on and off, so I spent most of the weekend napping or laying in bed watching videos lol. I feel better today though, so I am hoping to jump back into the swing of things!

Yeah, well hopefully I continue to feel alright lol. That's life I guess.

I made it a week but I a bad relapse on the 30th, I was hoping it would be my last but I had a beer today again.

From July 1st to today I was sober (just two and a half days lol)...but I came to the realization I'm an alcoholic like I never have before. I was listening to an AA podcast almost non-stop while I got over the hangover until today, I watched that movie with James Woods "My Name is Bill W." while I finished off that relapse and again the next day. I'll watch it again tonight.

It's the first time I really felt I was an alcoholic and shouldn't ever drink again. It was the first time in a while I think I've been honest with myself, not giving into the pride that says I can handle it I just need to try harder.

Listening to the beginnings of the 12 steps and hearing people's stories and thinking about my life of increasing drinking for the past decade and how bad it's been getting lately, I am an alcoholic, I've lost control of my life, alcohol is a poison for me, it can kill me like it has so many, and I just can't handle it at all on my own.

But today I was out with the boys and I had a beer. I really regret it and wish I didn't, because I'll probably keep going today.

I hope I don't lose this feeling and go to an AA meeting this week. I know I need to get involved with an AA group and go to meetings regularly and work the steps.

From now on I'll have to work on those strategies to say no when I'm with people who drink as I get back on track this summer.

God bless you guys and this thread.
I hope you don't beat yourself up too much over it, just keep getting back up! I like the part in that movie when he says "I'm not here for you, I'm here for me". Pretty powerful. Social connection makes a huge difference when it comes to sobriety.

One great thing about AA meetings is that they are free and don’t want your money, like AT ALL. It’s literally just about people remaining alive.

Also if at first you go to a group that you aren’t super into, try another group in another part of town.

Yeah, AA is self supported, so there is an opportunity to donate. Highly excellent advice about checking out different meetings. It's interesting how different each AA/NA/etc meeting can be, even if the only difference is the time of day. Eventually you find a group you really like and get support from and many call this a home group. I feel like it's easy to go to a few meetings that don't vibe with you and just assume all AA meetings are like that. Also, there are other non 12 step meetings like SMART Recovery (which uses CBT) and Recovery Dharma (based on Buddhist principles). I believe the key thing is where ever you go, you establish some sober social connections which can help with support and provide accountability. For me, social isolation can be incredibly detrimental to my recovery and overall wellbeing.

I hope you guys are having a safe, fun and sober Fourth of July! I'm just gonna be chilling like a villain inside today and hopefully get decent sleep so I can get back in the gym tomorrow!

Gjdm on the two nights, hopefully you were able to navigate through your anxiety yesterday and were able to not drink. Besides drinking, how do you cope with anxiety?

Nice work on not drinking to ease your hangover. My suggestion is to not get too hung up on what day you are on in terms of sobriety and instead focus more on what you can do that day to support your recovery. It can be helpful to change your perspective from "not drinking at all" to "not drinking today".

https://aahomegroup.org/

^^That's a pretty good online AA Zoom. They do a meeting every hour, 24/7!

In terms of general advice for everyone, it is helpful to find some ways of preoccupying your time, especially in early recovery. I think the saying is told in slightly different ways, but I think the "idle hands are a devils playground". Trying to white knuckle it and only changing the behavior of drinking and/or using makes it incredibly difficult. That's why it can be helpful to go to meetings or hang out with a supportive friend or family member.

Crushed a bottle of vodka Fri-Sun. Don’t do it brahs.

I had a few drinks in Miami in April at a bar and was fine. I’m realizing I can’t keep alcohol in the house. I binge eat and drink. I stopped when the bottle was gone. The thing is I have beers in the fridge but I can’t bring myself to drink the cals and I don’t have cravings. I legit only like vodka.

Not worth it at all. Maybe a drink or 2 on a date but I’m done keeping hard liquor in the house.

I binge everything, but I’d much rather binge eat than drink a bottle of vodka. Luckily I never drink so no withdrawals or anything but the hangover yesterday suckkkkkeeedddd

Thanks man, wrapping up day 4, so tomorrow will be 4 nights complete. I also dumped all off my Phenibut last night. I was using it a couple days a week (on weekends). I think if I didn’t use it on Saturday I wouldn’t have drank.

And if I can make it through this weekend I should be good until the next!

Slept AWFUL last night… got 3-4 good hours. But I know itl slowly get better. I’m a day or 3 I should be through the initial withdrawal symptoms, but I know I’ll have PAWS for a while

Wow so boyos my back really hurt for a few days after those hill sprints I did, let’s just say I have to stretch my hip flexors more. Way too tight.

Starting to feel better though thankfully but damn. I feel old sometimes boyos. Guess it can happen to anyone.

Have a minor right shoulder issue, might be some kind of tendinitis, my right shoulder don’t like pushups. Might have to go back to doing more dips which they do like. Weird.

Anyway damn bros, gotta listen to your body and out in that stretching time

Felt great while running but a couple days later…damn eveyrthing locked up.

Back in the day I would have drank to help the pain feel better

This is a great thread. Keep it alive boys.

I see some of you talking about not drinking for 5 days and being disappointed. If you were drinking every day for years and now you are going 5 days without it think about how much better your body is for the break.

Recently I didn't drink for 5 months. Now it's about a week between. I'll continue to work on it.

My pro tip: non alcoholic beer. I swear by it. The taste of it is enough to satisfy the craving a lot of the time.

I'm really pulling for you guys. Myself, too, but I've got almost 5 years so I'm not struggling as much as some people early on do.

Benedetto, I'm really looking forward to seeing you make huge progress.

Anxiety is way down today. Have some anhedonia and don’t want to do much.

Had a bunch of Japanese soft serve ice cream lol.

But going to bed in an hour or so, so tomorrow morning will be 6 days complete.

Congrats on the 5 years!! That’s amazing. How has your mood/life/libido/etc changed since recovering?

Great job on 6 days. Ice cream is definitely better than alcohol. Lol

Thanks, bro. My mood, anxiety, outlook, and confidence improved a ton. It's nice not living life handicapped with one arm behind my back. No more pretending I'm not hungover while trying to maintain an appearance of normality the next day really makes a difference in all of my endeavors and relationships.

Wow my back finally feels better. Took about a week. Moral of the story is I gotta work in my mobility if I wanna keep doing something as intense as weighted hill sprints.

Had a great Dip workout yesterday, worked up to 81lbs added going super deep what you could call “ATG Dips”, also with a wide grip, nothing hits the pecs like this. The stretch on the pecs is amazing!

I’m coming up on 34 weeks sober boyos. Just did blood work yesterday and will get results back soon. I hope everything looks good, which it should since I don’t even have any symptoms related to liver disease anymore.

How’s everyone’s weekend so far? Staying strong?

Nice man!! 34 weeks is huge. Wish I stuck with my sobriety when I did a 4-8 week stint end of last year.

I woke up and did a nice long walk/jog. Focusing on low end endurance/aerobic capacity right now

Congrats on the good news! It's amazing how much benefit can come from sobriety/recovery.

So true. It’s almost as if our bodies and minds REALLY FUKIN HATE drugs and alcohol or something *scratches head* lol

We have the capacity to recover if we make the choice to do so. I’m not special or lucky I just didn’t drink, that’s all.

Speaking of which how are YOU doing? Like physically and all that, you still feeling better all the time?

LOVE this for you

I’ll probably wait several months to get blood work. And I know my blood pressure has been too high

Yeah, what a strange concept lol. I've been in a slump that I'm trying to get out of. Just goes to show how a week or two of poor self care can put you in a bit of a hole. I've had no energy or motivation to do anything other than sleep or lay in bed watching videos. I worked out yesterday for a bit and met with one of my peers. Today I am gonna be going to the gym in about 15 minutes and then do my recovery circle over Zoom today instead of going to the recovery cafe. And then I need to bike down to the store to get groceries. I really, really, really want to just not do any of that, but everyday that I continue to do nothing makes it much more difficult to get back on track.
