Because they focus on their own sports, since their population is so huge.

I'm not the biggest fan of most yank sports, but if they decided to focus on most other sports, with their population and resources you have to be an idiot to think they couldn't at least compete. The only exception is football, they probably could compete but it would take a longer time, since the entire system is embedded in European culture for over a century with feeder clubs etc.

And a lack of real interest is probably the winner.

During the Cold War the Olympics were sort of a proxy competition between world powers. Who isn't aware of the program run to select and train athletes in China and the USSR?

Now in the US many children have 0 exposure to sport and fitness.

- many public schools only have PE one day a week and some don't have any PE at all

https://www.capnpetespowerpe.com/sin...werful-reasons

- lack of interest and lack of funds seems to have reduced participation in low cost recreational youth sports

- with both parents [or the only parent] working in most families there is a lack of adult time to get kids engaged in sports

- most children aren't as exposed to sports as a career worth chasing [single mom households, too many other entertainment options competing with sports]

Sports and athletics seems to be something only for upper tier children in good school districts with parents who encourage sports and can dedicate the time and money for their children to practice and compete.

If we had a government supported program to scout for natural talent and begin training and conditioning early on the taxpayers' dime then we would probably make a better showing than most countries simply due to the diversity here which should mean we have a good assortment of physiological types.

USA gets absolutely cucked at football/ soccer. Pretty much the only sport where every nation puts in some effort to compete.

Serbs can absolutely mog the NBA if investments were put into their federation. The junior talent there is insane.
Racing = cucked
Tennis = cucked
Volleyball = cucked
Hockey = cucked

The only mainstream sports where the USA absolutely dominates are baseball and american football which are not played by anybody outside of the USA

So 2/5 of the top 5 are British, not bad for a country with a population of 60 mil. In the 2024 rankings oxford & cambridge are 2nd and 3rd, and half the top 10 are on European soil (4 of them in the UK), half on US soil.

Not trying to claim Americans are dumber or anything, simply correcting misinformation.

Seems a petty comment tbh anyway. People are individuals. Many brits are fkin stupid, many yanks are fkin stupid. The opposite is also true.

I dunno why Sam makes these threads tbh, attention i guess.

Why'd you have to pick a stat that doesn't matter to prove a point? Look at total medals and let's do this the right way this time

Ohhh, nvm, this is why:

Olympic Medals by Country 2023

# Country Total Olympic Medals Summer Olympic Medals Winter Olympic...
1 United States of America 2,985 2,655 330
2 Germany 1,083 797 286
3 United Kingdom 965 931 34

Lmao at the per capita cope. It’s almost as bad as when they try the total medal count, but lump all of the EU together.

Cricket isn’t played here. At all. Rugby is like a tier 4 sport here below the big sports. Soccer is starting to catch on but really all of the top talent goes NFL, MLB, NBA, and NHL since that’s where the money is.

Basketball is a world sport btw. Just because un athletic Ukcels like you can’t hang on the court doesn’t mean the more alpha euro nations don’t have great teams. Spain is a powerhouse every tournament, Slovenia has Luka Magic so they’re a semi threat, and every top team has one or two NBA players with many having all stars.

America worships sports where athleticism is the driving factor. Football and basketball.

Don’t care about dork sports like golf. Barely even qualifies as a sport. On par with bowling

Can't remember the last time I watched a sport where they were successful. Whether it's football, tennis, f1 or anything else popular. I guess they're doing somewhat decent in MMA because the biggest org is American so they focus a lot on recruiting Americans.

Fair point, but part of that is that it's the sheer size, combined with being an advanced nation. It seems silly to compare medals with a country that has 7x the population or more. When you compare per capita to a nation with a similar level of advancement, you get a different picture.

For a more fair comparison, add up Europes medals and compare it to USA, the top European countries combined probably have a similar population.

UK doing pretty fkin impressively for their size, quite frankly lol.

If you add up:
GB
France
Germany
Italy
East Germany
netherlands

(i.e western europe, although some places are missed, but wanted to try to make a population comparable to USA, so this is by no means all of Europe)
You get a total population of about 293 million (so ~40 mil less than USA), and a medal count of 3671 vs USA's 2629.

and a gold medal count of 1173 vs USA's 1061

Americans always brag about how huge they are, and how European countries are like states to them and laugh at them, until it comes to counting medals vs much smaller countries lol.

No offense intended obviously but this chap seems to portray the personality of someone who is the butt of jokes around his golf clubhouse I mean you know the type where he walks by and everyone gives an awkward head nod and as soon as he is just beyond hearing range the group of normal men laugh and call home a horrendous tosser again just an observation
