What is an "Anti-Establishment" Liberal?

Do they even exist anymore?

I was gonna say they'd be back the next time someone with an "R" next to their name sat in the White House, but that really isn't right because covid shoved the establishment straight down their throats and they swallowed every delicious drop of it.

Same with Bernie Sanders.. Old Berno hated - and I mean HATED him some corporate wall street $$ in politics. Big pharma, big banks, big insurance, whatever.. it was all bad dammit. And his Berniebots swallowed that load too.

...Until he bent over for Hillary and the DNC. Then they didn't seem to mind that sweet sweet wall street $$ so much.

An “anti-establishment” liberal is someone who is actually a foot soldier for the establishment, but has been convinced to go out and “fight nazis” for the system. This means they will promote whatever social, political, corporate, or military agenda as long as their tribe tells them to. Censorship is now not only good, but crucial to survival. Big pharma good. Big government good. MIC good. Big tech good. So naturally anyone who pushes against the agenda of any of those must be bad.

There was that thread a couple of days ago where some of them were queefing about the MIC and what a waste of money it is - yet at the same time cheering all the money we're pissing away in Ukraine.

Isn't that right GOO.

Liberals control every single institution of power and influence in this country, from the state dept, FBI, CIA, they have taken control of all the major cities, including most of the DA, circuit judges, city councils, they control academia, which is IMHO their biggest weapon, and they control 99% of news outlets, they control the cultural propaganda mega machine of MSM through Hollywood, Netflix, and Disney amongst many.

Why would any liberal want to fight “the system”?

Lol I know they perceive “the system” as the evil big corporations that their side which controls absolutely everything in this country is in bed with.

Liberals do not exist in American politics.

It's antiquated and honestly shows some ignorance on those who still use it.

Well its a paradox. They can exist, but the purposes or aims they serve directly contradict their political identity. They're just zealots or "useful idiots"

I’m anti-establishment in the sense that I believe our current form of “capitalism” is fcking 99% of us. I don’t trust the government with powers like the death penalty, pro gun ownership, very pro free speech, etc.

I’m very much not alone in these views.

Now I understand to the current crop of Trumpies that inhabit this board is VERY important for you to believe this isn’t the case. But, it is.

You do see them, examples are people like Jimmy Dore, Joe Rogan or Russel Brand. Kim Iverson, as well. The Greyzone. Politically, Tulsi Gabbard checks off most boxes. Maybe RFK Jr? I won't include someone like Tim Pool who has leaned way too heavily towards the right lately, but earlier in his career he would have been one as well.

Unfortunately a lot of people promoted as anti-establishment leftiest (Bernie Sanders or Cornell West) are just playing a part and when the moment comes, they'll go full NoLibs4 and back the establishment. Trojan horses.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Probably a liberal who has fallen out of favor with those currently in power and isn't afraid to publicly criticize them. Like Tim Robbins and that Professor Weinstein dude.

Supporting the establishment by buying into their propaganda doesn't make you anti-establishment.

Ukraine is an example (money laundering) , 1/6 being an insurrection is another (cracking down on anti-establishment resistance).

I was siding with the Democrats when the Establishment was weaponizing the Right to push their GWOT, then the Establishment started weaponizing the Left and social justice to push their next agenda, and now I stand with Republicans in defiance of that.

Liberals can't see it because they are dumb.

I am allowed to have opinion that don’t fit with some checklist, this doesn’t make me pro-establishment. It means I have my own ideas, and I certainly am for a strong US government and impact on the world stage. I remember when that just made me a proud American and patriotic.

Also Jordan Peterson, the Weinsteins, and some other people who have been labeled as "far right" because they do not support corporatism or wokeism or communism.

This.
Classical liberalism is a political tradition and a branch of liberalism that advocates free market and laissez-faire economics; and civil liberties under the rule of law, with special emphasis on individual autonomy, limited government, economic freedom, political freedom and freedom of speech.

Not really a party but rather the entire country.... although because there was a Republican POTUS more Democrats went "anti." When a Democrat POTUS is in office it often switches the other way. Ultimately, it comes down to what your political affiliation is/ the political power in office, where you get your news, the state of the country (war, economy, etc), etc.

I would say in recent times Democrats pro-establishment peaked immediately following 9/11 and anti-establishment peaked around the end of 2008-ish. It turned around somewhat as things got better but there was still some moments of Occupy Wall Street and things that left people "anti-establishment." Like I said, the sentiment really comes in waves and isn't universal. True anti-establishment is really abolishing a system of government, and while that idea has been floated around, it has never had much credibility.

People were definitely not pro-establishment after 9/11 lol. Really the public had been increasingly becoming anti-establishment, until the rise of social media and all these fake orgs like Occupy, BLM, Anitfa. It's now a cultural war
