You mentioned the settlements in your own post, so there is no argument that "nothing has ever been done wrong". The argument is though that "defund the police" doesn't work when police are critically underfunded, as shown by their minimal training (compared to the violent populace they are responsible for), and the amount (when looking at many areas in the USA where the police have failed, hence the rise of the citizen protector).

You would think that there wouldn't be a debate on the topic, but there is. Pretty much anytime there is an unlawful detainment it is passed on as "did no wrong". (Unless of course damages occurred and a law suit can take place for hundreds of thousands+).

Defund the police is a tricky thing. I haven't personally investigated police budgets so I can't speak to anything the objective truth. I do know when given the choice between more training and more police on the streets they choose the police option. I find this very interesting because in a military setting I would 100% take 8 excellently trained people over 10 poorly trained people. (Same number of police one day a week for training.)

Beyond that I also find it interesting when a youtuber goes into a public building with a camera 12 police show up (for a non-crime). IMO that tells me resource allocation is a problem.

The fact of the matter is that police in NYC get 3-4 months of training (the most in the USA as a whole), compared to 3 years in Germany before going out. 3 years. The USA features higher levels of violence in its criminal activities, including ambushes for LEOs, shooting at them during a simple traffic stop etc.

There are 10 million arrests per year in the USA and only a tiny, tiny fraction of them involve impropriety.

I saw a guy hop a turnstyle in NYC and when 2 cops nearby told him to stop, he started spitting at them. In a few minutes there were about 10 cops - the guy, probably 20? Had no sympathy, folks were yelling 'taze him!!!' but since some were videotaping they didn't use any 'painful noncompliance' at all.

This behavior happens in no other western country on this planet that I know of, srs.
