Kevin McCarthy has been sensationally ousted as Speaker of the House in a historic vote sparked by a tumultuous civil war in the Republican party.

He became the first Speaker in the 234-year history of the United States Congress to be kicked out and have his gavel taken away by fellow lawmakers.
The humiliating end for McCarthy, 58, sent shockwaves across Capitol Hill and meant he is the shortest-serving Speaker since 1875, following a rollercoaster tenure of less than a year.

It came after a rebellion led by his nemesis, Florida congressman Matt Gaetz , and a small group of hardline Republicans who viewed McCarthy as a weak conservative.

Did yall see this coming in the 15 votes to make him speaker in the first place?

Meh this isn't a RINO thing. This is establishment neocons vs the other republicans... Constitutionalists, budget hawks, libertarianlike, and forsaken dems. You could argue that McCarthy is the most representative of traditional Republican Party BS.

Surprised actually that they had the balls and the power to do it. Granted the Dems went along with it for the lulz, but this is deserved.

You make promises. Don't try to fulfill them at all.

"We didn't have time to do it these last 9 months, but trust me in a couple of years I will do what I said."

seems like that raise your boss promised you last year.

I just wish they had a viable replacement. Last thing you want is a newer RINO in who will be harder to get rid of or keep in check

Not something you want to have the "first in history" title for ha.

I'll reserve judgement until we see who the replacement is. But McCarthy was a weak Neocon, so he won't be missed.

That is what I mean. I am not sure RINO is really a thing anymore.

The republican party is now a heavy mix of people with different values. MAGAs, War Hawks, Religious, Libertarians, Less insane Dems, and establishment.

The only real constant is that you need to be moderately pro-gun.

i met a dude who is a member of that and he let me see his little book.
i never got any info from that book or him on what they really do there; any ideas or insights based on what you know?
He said Clarence Thomas was a member as well.

Or he just runs and wins again. Maybe not there, though - as I recall he positioned himself hard as a super amazing incredible 100% fiscal conservative to the bone, like they all do, and that tends to work once real good, but not as great the second time around without an otherwise stellar record behind him. Which he ain't got.

Yep. And then you add in that the Right never has anyone step up. Not for president, or speaker. Trump is not a hardcore conservative and had to win it for them. Minds on the Right are big into media, but never run

The GOP voters, sure. The party itself: 90% neocons.

Most of them just want to be loved by the media like their democrat counterparts. The Uniparty has the numbers but it's just not an official party...

Republicans have this stupid idea that they should elect someone in the middle.

You know who doesn't give a fuk about the middle? Democrats. They elected Pelosi, from the farthest left district in the USfor years..

Gaetz fails to understand they have only the house and that the senate and presidency are dem controlled. Seems he wants someone to do like nancy pelosi did her last two years and keep sending stuff to the senate that is DOA.

Unfortunately, they bombed in 2022 and they barely got a majority. They have virtually NO leverage.

This is why Republicucks better start taking midterms/special elections a lot more seriously. But they won't so they will continue to fail.

Just a bad move right now. It creates the image of chaos and drama in the GOP party.

The White House and Senate are controlled by Dems. The House is basically evenly split (to the extent that Repubs have a majority, a lot of them represent districts that Biden won in 2020, so they are moderate politicians). In this government controlled mostly by Dems, what does Gaetz think McCarthy should have done ? The man can't wave a wand and get the Dems and moderate Repubs to cut spending or drop Ukraine funding

This is what happens when you get the votes with conditions.

He didn't hold up his end of the bargain so out he goes , the very reason why the freedom caucus held out for so long .

Gaetz brought up the $33 trillion in debt..... ignoring Trump signed many bills that increased the debt as well.

You could have had a vote specifically on funding Ukraine... and not tried to bundle it in with an omnibus spending bill.

Speaking of omnibus spending bill... That is something he said he wouldn't do.
