Lol this. Especially in the corporate world for the most part. Work hard, and it will pay off! You can move up!

In reality: Just do the bare minimum so they can't fire you like in Office Space. There's so many people that think because they agree to stay late at work it will earn them a promotion!

When really the bosses are just using you, and then when you ask for a raise they say "They'll look into it" or "We are doing reviews and let you know" Then go into their conference room and laugh.

2.Medical advice- most doctors don't know chit and just want to prescribe you pills so you'll stfu

3."Experts" in general- doesn't matter how smart someone is on paper. The fact is nobody can reliably predict the future and pretty much everyone is stumbling around figuring things out as they happen

Outside of that, as I grew older I'd say the biggest scam is the consumption of information from "news sources."

college

even though i'm a college grad, i believe that college is useless for most people. unless you're aiming for a specific career path that requires a degree (doctor, nurse, engineer, lawyer, phd researcher, etc.)

if you're the average american college student borrowing chit loads of money to get some bullchit degree and you graduate into a mediocre job while being saddled with $50-100k+ in debt, you're setting yourself up for failure.

i remember being in HS and all the guidance counselors would push this narrative that college was the goal and that if you don't go to college you're a loser, which in retrospect is absolute garbage advice.

there are literally people out there who are 65+ and getting their social security payments garnished to pay back student loans (srs). it's brutal

yeah the push for college by mostly women in positions like guidance counselor is a scam. i remember hearing sayings like if you just get a degree (in anything) you'll be set for life. i knew people going to private colleges spending $100k+ for something like a history degree. for many it's just a way to delay the real world for 4-5 years. be better off just living at home, working any job and banking the money while being debt free. it's possible that one could pay cash for a house after those 5 years while having no debt (starter house $175k in the south).

brb put money away monthly for decades you cant touch. hope you even make it to retirement in decent health. brb get sick due to old age. brb gubment drains all your money first before they end up paying for treatment which they would have from the start if you had no money.
