Hey! I’ve talked to my head coach, and she’s okayed me to get my medical done to start sparring! I’m super psyched/stoked and am looking to buy myself sparring gloves and boxing shoes as a reward.
Do you have any recommendations on brands for both? Some brands I’ve looked at for gloves are hayabasa, venom, ringside. For shoes… I’ve considered title, rival, Nike.
Background, I’ve been doing boxing since last march. Typically go 2-5x/week, with my own personal training sessions post lifting 2-3x/week. Only have done heavy bag, pad work, and gotten in the ring offensively while people practiced their defence. Prior to that, on and off Muay Thai.
Thanks in advance and poverty reps to anyone that actually offers solid advice!

Why would you spar or do combat sports, as a woman?
If you're pretty, 7/10 and above, why would you want to ruin your face and get punched by some ugly 2/10 butch dyke? It serves no purpose for any woman of value and desirability.
Are you ugly?

Your gym doesn't have those things?
Perhaps you need to go to a real boxing gym.
Don't feel bad it takes time or at least years ago it did to even know where to look to find one.
If you go to a gym that doesn't even have gloves and head gear. I'm guessing there isn't even a ring..
If you are just trying to work out your good but if you are serious I'd suggest looking else where
.as far as brands go. Ringside and Reyes are the best but you don't need the best with what you are doing. At least they were the best when i was on the gym

Stay in your weight class or you’ll get knocked into the dimension of world star hip hop and Havoc will post threads about you. You already heard the chit most miscers will say anyway, master footwork, exhale after punching, keep your hands up, use your lower body for power, follow through, stay loose, yada yada.
Hold up, actually read the post. I only ever bought the everlast junk. Tons of lists out there depending on tier of equipment. Depends on how serious you are and your budget.
Here you are:

Also, look into Di Nardo

So I’m hoping to get into the ring to have someone rearrange my face because it’s cheaper than plastic surgery.
Not because I enjoy the discipline, mental and physical conditioning, dedication, and challenging yourself everyday.

I’m actually returning my recently bought Hayabusas tomorrow. That doesn’t mean they are bad, it’s just that their style doesn’t work for my hand.
You have to assess whether your hand needs more wrist protection or knuckle protection. There are other smaller factors to consider as well.
Luckily, I bought some Winning gloves back when they cost $275. Now they’re around $425 I believe. They are still the best and perfect for my hand.
I need more wrist protection than knuckle protection so I wanted to get Hayabusas as a second glove. Unfortunately the wrist protection is so severe it practically locks up my wrist and can’t bend it. Didn’t feel good so I am returning them.
You really won’t know if you like a glove until you try them yourself. Ask other people if you can try their glove on and do a few punches on the bag.
When you are ready to buy, make sure they have free trial and a return policy without restocking fee. Thats how I’m returning those Hayabusas.
For a second glove, I’m now looking at Fairtex, Rival or RDX. My Winning gloves are amazing but I don’t want them to smell and get ruined from doing back to back days of training - they need to air out and deodorize nomsayin. Can’t stand it when I have to take punches from someone with gloves that reek.

Not serious about amateur fights, serious about doing this my whole life though into the unforseen future.

Also, I specifically recommend the Hayabusa s4 gloves for starting sparring. Also you probably should get a gel hand wrap instead of the traditional hand wrap.
And oh wait, 14 oz are okay for sparring? I thought they had to be more padded for safety? What about the t3 gloves I posted ^^^?
Oh my knuckles are fine. Been screwing my wrist with heavy hook/body shots though. Need to fix my technique and more wrist support.

It’s like those folk who join BJJ and Muay Thai at the same time. Too much going on at the same time when it should be a step by step learning process.
That being said, boxing is where the ugliest girls train. BJJ has the hotter girls. Whereas Muay Yhai is in the middle but veers closer to the butch boxing girls. SRS.

Damn shawty holla at cha boy. Nah but I've boxed before and trained at Floyd Mayweather's gym.
First thing is to get gloves and shoes that fit.
It's even better if you can find someone to wrap your hands.
Sparring is a different ball game. You could get seriously hurt but it's a good way to see your weak areas. For most people that's cardio and defense.

Protect your hands at all cost if not that's like a professional golfer banging up and denting hid or her clubs..
Make sure you do that OP

doesn't even matter what brand gloves you are using at this point tbh.
low level sparring usually requires 16oz gloves in classes.

So many Muay Thai practitioners don’t know punches or kicks or defense or anything because they trying to learn it all at the same time. They learn little of each.
SRS.

But I found that the gym had so many people in it and they went through so many combinations (only spending like 5 minutes on one move before moving on to another) that I felt like my basics and foundations weren’t being built on because I was constantly trying to catch up. Felt my form, foot work, technique was suffering.
Doing one on one classes with a coach was much better but that’s expensive.
I found with boxing and the way the classes were run, I had a better focus on areas I needed to grow in. Jabs, cross, footwork, breathing, movement and flow… those all improved.
I really really did enjoy Muay Thai but I think Chang is right about boxing being a good foundation to start with… unless my Muay Thai gym wasn’t that good.

doesn't even matter what brand gloves you are using at this point tbh.
low level sparring usually requires 16oz gloves in classes.

Where did you buy yours so you could try it out and return without issue? And lol yeah I know…. That’s why I can’t stand using the shared gloves at the gym….I’m actually returning my recently bought Hayabusas tomorrow.

Protect your hands at all cost if not that's like a professional golfer banging up and denting hid or her clubs..
Make sure you do that OP

Okay so I’ll go for a 16 oz at least (that’s what I thought) and maybe I don’t have to focus too heavy on wrist support of the glove if I am wrapping my hands for more wrist support to begin with?

and absolutely. wraps will support your wrists and hands far better than gloves
