Banned a guy from my garage for carrying a concealed gun

Goofball comes in asking about checking his car as the brakes are making a strange sound and while we're talking I notice a gun next to his hip.

I politely ask if he could put the weapon into his vehicle as I don't feel comfortable with him being in my shop while carrying a gun.

He says it's his right to carry for self-defense and I firmly ask if he can put it away while we are talking so we can try to resolve what's wrong with his car.

I explain that he doesn't need a gun for protection in here, but yet again he refuses and now I'm less than happy with the situation.

We continue to make no progress and I end up demanding he takes his business elsewhere because of his ignorance.

Guy mutters chit under his breath as he gets into his car and drives away.

I think you handled that pretty good my self. I respect his right to carry as well as yours to not want someone in your store with one if he had a decent mentality he would have just obliged and carried on his business with you .

I don't know why some can not understand that just because you have the right to do something does not mean you should or have to do it all the time

He wasn't threatening you, so what the big deal? It's a constitutional right to carry a firearm, and the chance of getting attacked wherever you are isn't zero. If you don't want people carrying at your place of business, you need the legal signage to ask them to leave and trespass them

If this story is true, you're a huge bitch.

He is more of a threat by having a loaded gun in my garage where I'm just trying to do my job and then continues to refuse which makes him even more suspicious

I don't understand what the issue was. If the gun was hidden you'd have no problem, but it's not like he couldn't shoot you just as well if he wanted, and that's true whether the gun was hidden or not. There's no logic in you crying OP.

But it's his right?

Man I love how people cherry pick the things they agree with and don't agree with and label one or the other right or wrong based on their view point and opinion .

He can do whatever he wants in his business. I'm just pointing out there's no logic in what he did.

What? How do you know that? What if you got hostile and he needed a means to protect himself?

Maybe on the surface. But we were not there. Some people just give off bad vibes man. Regardless of his reason he's entitled. Guy had a choice to respect owners wishes it take his business else where. You got to respect both.

Ok, so the guy who gives off bad vibes goes back to his car and tucks the gun into his pants or whatever. The gun is no longer visible. What has changed? Absolutely nothing.

What if he got hostile because he didn't like my prices and I was intimidated because he was carrying a weapon? We can make up hypotheticals all day.

Do most people carry a gun during regular business transactions?

Very big insecurity right there to immediately think that's what I was referring to.

The same type of insecurity that means you need to carry a gun while asking for a service from a tradie or any other type of business transaction

They should.

What if someone came into your business with a firearm and tried to rob you and threatened murder? What if this man that was conceal carrying was in your business and prevented it all? Sounds like it's your problem that you are uncomfortable around him exercising his rights.

Lets make up every hypothetical possible to justify the existence of a concealed gun in a garage

Might as well extend that hypothetical to white collar office workers, brb everyone is concealed carrying while running tech support

Microsoft gonna start packing heat to every client meeting to ensure there's no shootouts while closing deals

I am not afraid of inanimate objects, so I have no issues with people open or concealed carrying.

People would be more polite if everyone was packing heat.

Can you guarantee his safety? If some maniac came in with a knife and started attacking him are you going to protect him or is that on him while you run away? This idea that he might become agitated because of your prices or something and shoot you is insane.

Been a mechanic/tech for 25 years and most techs keep guns in their boxes and never met a tech that was anti-gun.

From what I read he asked the guy to put it in his car and not have it on his person.. I would think he would have watched to make sure but also outting up a sign no firearms allowed would likely avoid such things in the future
