I've received 2 speeding tickets in my 40 years of driving. I'm a white woman.

If I recall, the reason it changed in the 60s was due to the welfare requirements. Single mothers (I think) receive more welfare for more kids and if they're not married.It was true for my Mom and for me. I think she was the only woman on her floor in the 80s working in tech, lol.

Now she could program whereas I cannot. She definitely is more of a STEM expert than I am. I try to get my daughter's babysitters to major in STEM degrees because I can see that they would have great opportunities in the tech world.

But sadly most of them wanted to major in Education and be teachers. You can't survive on a teacher's salary in the Bay Area, so they had to move away from their families.

I keep going back to my personal story of being a second generation immigrant and how my grandparents after they were married lived in a literal heated chicken coop behind a gas station. They were impoverished. More impoverished than anyone today. My grandpa ultimately built a business by gambling with what little money he earned and 15 years later he sold it and retired. He didn't have grants to start his business like the racist grants for black people only from the government. He didn't get a better business loan rate like black people can now through us bank. A lot of what I have been writing is that situations have changed over time. My Grandma had a very little chance to get a job in her generation. My Mom was amazing to even get a job as a programmer, which is something I'm not able to do very well. I tell everyone at the nursing home how smart and how she really broke through barriers as a woman, as now she's completely incapacitated and it's sad. Things were tougher for me as a woman to get hired than they are for women now, especially since I didn't go to a top university like BBMG.
