People who make good choices regarding healthy food and purchasing raw ingredients aren't nearly as impacted as those who buy crappy prepared foods or pay restaurants to make it for them.

Shiit, I just bought a handful of odds and ends this week... toilet paper, dog food, coffee, toothpaste, laundry detergent, etc... and it was almost $60.

Good thing 'tard is here to remind me it wasn't really that expensive - my perception was just off lol.

lulz. If you believe that you probably believe the lies that overall inflation has only risen 19% from Biden's inauguration through January 2024. In reality it's double that. The govt has redone how they calculate inflation twice, to make it seem less than it is. By 1990 standards inflation in the US has been over 30% in the last 3 years, including services, not just goods. It didn't max out at 9% during a part of 2022, it was over 10% for the entire year.

And they don't consider shrinkflation in those fake stats. Shrinkflation isn't new, it's been something I've noticed for at least a dozen years. The one theme that's correct is that pork, fresh fruit and veggies, eggs and poultry haven't risen much since 2020. Eggs of course went way up during the worldwide bird flu pandemic but prices have come back to normal since. Good thing, because I buy a few dozen at a time. Overall food inflation since Biden took office has probably been around 25-30% in reality. Not as bad as cars or homes, but still not good.

I should have included the source, it's not hiding the massive increase in food costs, and I think is based on actual price checks across the country, not just the government's published inflation rate.

My point in that particular table is that, within the landscape of inflation there are choices to be made, some better than others. I don't have sympathy for complaints of fast food or prepared foods being expensive when there have always been better options.

That's a real bummer.

My preferred mountain bike tires are pushing $120 each, and I'll go through probably 10 of them this year. There are alternatives but I prefer a soft compound and sidewall support for the type of riding I do, so I shut up and fork over the money to my enablers at the bike shop.

Yeah I don't feel a lot of sympathy for ultra processed foods going up. That said, I always keep snacks (Zbars, oatmeal snacks, the wife buys them nutella snacks) around for my kids since it's difficult to get them to eat whole foods all day every day. People complaining about fast food - lulz. Oh well. I get fast food (excluding pizza that I pick up) maybe once a month. I usually pick up pizza from Costco 2-3 times a month, and it's been the same $9.99 price for probably 20 years. Even prices for goods beyond just food have gone up noticeably at Costco. Random household stuff that was $20 two yrs ago is $30, the $30 items are now $40 in just two years. Beef and pork prices are NOT noticeable there, but the box of diapers I get has gone up $10 in the last year, and prices of many foods have definitely gone up even there 25% in the last 2 years.

It's not going to break my bank account, but it's also not fun, and ya notice it more when you have a few kids than single people do.

same with the 2 litre bottles.. a few years ago they drifted up to $1.99 which seemed outragous, then it was $2.99 for the last few years, now I'm starting to see $3.99.

Just checked my Walmart App . A 15 oz bottle of Lee & Perrins The Original Worcestershire Sauce is $5.98. Once again OP is full of $hit and most likely shopping at a small Habim mom/pop store just to complain that only Orange Jesus can instantly & magically revert prices back to 1950’s prices where a cup of Starbucks coffee was $2 (which we all know is also more alternative cult facts because it’s never ever been $2 at Starbucks , they just love making $hit up.)

Some grocery stores around here will try to charge 10 bucks for 12 pack of soda, but you can always find a sale of 2 for 10 somewhere.
