is it true that from age 4-5 most people never get more than 2 months off?

Think about it -- age 4-5 you start school. You get summer vacations, but many parents keep their kids busy during this time...can't have them "falling behind".

After age 17-18 most will never get more than about 2 weeks off at one time. This continues until retirement at age 70 or so.

Humans are not supposed to just rot and not do anything productive. Furthermore, society cannot function if a large enough number do so.


In a basic hunter/gatherer society. Or even a low tier agricultural society humans pretty much 'work' at shelter/fire/food the majority of the day. 7 days per week. From damn near the time they can walk until the time they can no longer walk.


In a modern society we have the luxury of paid vacations, 40 hour work weeks, and a cozy 'retirement' in our 70s. But make no mistake about it. If enough people opt out of the 'rat race' we are all ****ked.


Civilization needs the working class.

I wanted some extended time off and I didn't care for my job so I saved some money and quit. Took nine weeks off. Started the new job search around week four.

what i couldn't imagine is the agony of those final few weeks where you know you have to go back and it could be decades before you ever get months off again.

Yeah I work in national security. I don't love it but don't hate it either. I can imagine being a cubicalcel at like an insurance company or whatever ****ty corporate officecel jobs normies have. I'd rope if I had to do that

Nope

In Australia and most developed countries it’s 4 weeks annual leave, paid sick leave, long service leave and parental leave

I’m currently taking a year out of the workforce unpaid, and prior to that had a year on paid leave

Pretty cruisy if you work in an in-demand profession

What’s the point of helping if they’ve already proven they can make it on their own?

Things will be much more difficult for your kids than they were for you. Why would you judge their success based on the standards that applied to you, and are no longer relevant?

If they can't do it on their own, they don't deserve it, and I have failed as a father.

It's almost impossible for my kids to have it more difficult than I did, the only way I can think of that being the case is if WW3 feat nukes starts tomorrow. I was born into abject poverty and in a third world country. My kids will be born with every advantage.

I have had so few vacations in my life compared to most people. Half of my vacations were soccer trips carpooling with teammates and staying 4+ to a hotel room with 2 beds.

We just didn't have the money and at this point I chose to push off doing all those things so I got out of debt and have a large savings now.

Honestly though, a lot of people I know take a lot of time off. Heck people just randomly take 1 month off work and fly to their home country in Europe to stay with family and they still have a job. Other people I know take 4-6 vacations a year easily.

As a kid, summer time was some sports, but mainly just having fun with your friends and doing tons of events and stuff. Or going to someone's condo/lakehouse if you get invited. I actually think kids get more time off now.

I have teacher friends and the kids now literally have the easiest life you can imagine. They cannot fail them. They must pass them. So kids don't have to do **** or worry about anything school related.

taking vacations though even for weeks at a time just ain't the same as having years or even decades off with no thoughts about doing anything you don't want to do/no boss/your own schedule/etc.
