And scholars don't really claim the OT has been altered, and it's sorta of dead end argument with the amount of manuscripts we have. I think the best argument to be made is that these things didn't take place at all, which is a good one. But it doesn't really do much for the theology and morality of the God being described.
Of course I don't think Yahweh himself exists, but from the texts I can see "it" regularly committed, sanctioned, and blessed evil acts.

I meant the NT sorry (hence Christian scholars). Even some OT stuff is questionable that I've come across.
I'm outside all this anyways so trying to look at it objectively.

NT stuff, Christians often take the position of the Abrogation of Old Covenant, and then extend anything that happened in the OT as necessary but it is to be overlooked because of Christ yada yada.
That still doesn't alter the fact that these things apparently happened, nor does it alter the fact that Yahweh commands these evils to take place. And all the other problems that come with Yahweh interfering and not whenever it suits him and the manner in which he does it.

Jesus isn't God btw, this is just another invention inserted by the Church. I recommend looking at Bart Ehrman works on the Trinity and the dogma associated with it. I actually greatly respect the words attributed to Jesus, but have little to no respect for the institutions that arose after his death.

I suggest look into Thucydides and Herodotus and how a lot of the NT writing were simply made up. People would invent writings and attribute it to the writers (brb I think John said this and that). It was very common during those times.
I think I agree with that - Jesus is based but I'm questionable about a lot of the stuff after him.

Anyone who reads it should really have alarm bells ringing because there are some really quite horrific things commanded, carried out and not even justified beyond some divine command theory nonsense.

God does not request that lmao. The funny part about atheists (whom I used to be myself) is that they haven't read the bible or tried to understand the bible. They take any phrase or verse and show it as to be some great evil and strip away all context from it.
Did you even read that full psalm? The author was an Israelite held captive and was saying that what the Babylonians are doing to us will be repaid with even greater force and will be happy to even smash their heads against the rocks.

And Yahweh did command that ethnic cleansing and genocide of the "promised land". Are you denying that, heretic?
Are you denying that the OT Yahweh is the same as the NT Yahweh? Very edgy and heretical thinking here Striker.

Yes the bible is inspired by God. That's not even a discussion to your point. God did not say that. The psalmist did that was held captive. Do you even know the context behind the whole thing?

Why don't we sacrifice animals for God anymore? It's the same God in both books, right? Did he just willy nilly decide not to anymore? You should know this.
What is God's relationship with man in the OT? Why does it seem so distrusted? You should know this as well. I can explain these for you very simply, but I know you'll reject them because you're an atheist now.
As for the other two verses, those are based on war. Wars against those with false idolatry and those that lead others to sin.
I can tell you're arguing with anger and with the passive aggressiveness, but don't try to spawn your hate and thoughts onto my beliefs.

Yahweh commanded evil. He enacted evil. It doesn't matter that "we don't do these things now", or that "Jesus fulfilled the law". What matters is that Yahweh has the ability and the toolset to influence people as he wishes. And he could have influenced the people of the "promised land" to leave. But he didn't. Instead, he gave his cult a law that he knew they couldn't follow (and punished them when they didn't - Ezekiel 20), and he commanded his cult to murder men, women, children, and cattle. Leave nothing. But maybe sometimes leave the virgin women, and let the men split them amongst themselves.
These are evil acts, and these are coming from the self-ascribed "Jealous God".
You're the one who entered and engaged in this thread, so don't get mad at me for trying to "spawn" my "hate and thoughts onto my beliefs". You sound demented. Leave the thread then you sensitive cultist.
Do you actually think because the Messiah came it undoes the evil committed by Yahweh? If these babies were sent to "heaven" the moment they were brutally stabbed to death, does it make that act of murdering a baby okay?
You do you though, you worship that monster.

OP’s question is equivalent to a ridiculous “would you rather” to me.
1. Find the worst parts of the bible, take them and show how awful they are and remove all context from them
2. Show the dark parts of God from the OT and compare it to the NT God and compare the difference. Example: "OMG say you're saying God is vengeful and jealous!?!?"
3. Apply the understanding of morality of now to the morality of back then. "But but but....rape!"
The weird part is that atheists must come from a viewpoint of no morality. If you reject creationism, then you reject morality. There is no good and evil. Thus, the very things you are finding as disgusting and hateful, isn't actual disgusting and hateful to them. That's why they never have a counter argument and only point the finger and try to keep the pressure on the person based on a morality issue. It's like modern day liberals calling you a nazi for saying "it's okay to be white" and then just keep calling you a nazi.
Then, the hilarious part is they never talk about the covenant. Man fell out of grace with God with Adam and Eve disobeying. The eventual deep reconnection between man and God came when Jesus sacrificed himself for our sins. That's why we don't sacrifice animals to God anymore for repentance of our sins. So the relationship between man and God changes within the covenants. It's the same God. In between that he tests man constantly. From Abraham to Moses.
This is all exhausting though and atheisms goal is to create this image that God is only angry and evil and you'd be a sicko to follow this fake God....here's these 8 different verses from an entire book taken out of context as "gotchas!"

Seriously. It makes zero sense to act as though you know God. You know God's will? Are you a prophet? I don't apply morality to God, he applied it to us. Who are you to tell him what is evil and not when he is God? That's not even a logical argument if you believe in a higher power lmao. But you're coming from the idea that it's a monster sky daddy imagination creature.
The simple idea is that you cannot believe in right and wrong. You do not believe in evil nor good. If you think attaching a false ideology to me based on what I must believe via your understanding of the bible and God, then I can easily attach it to you. You must believe it is okay to cut someones dick off and change genders. You must beleve rape and murder is okay. You MUST. You have no foundation of morality, unless of course.....you use that of God's? But you don't believe in that monster. Those things are neither good nor bad. They just are. Otherwise whose morality do you follow?
See where this goes? I know you're used to dealing with retards or people that can't logically defend positions, but I'm not some retard that will just accept retarded argumentation based on "gotchas."
If you are atheist, why do you care so much for our sake?
