Also, to some people in this thread, some schools do teach financial responsibility in HS.

My HS had 3 classes around the finance world + personal finances + debt, etc. that were MANDATORY to take & pass to graduate. And I took another 8 business related classes in HS

A lot of HS, in my area at least, are leaning towards mandatory finance / personal finance classes

Only been paying on student loans for 3 years, but it is going down. I wouldn't say my college debt is bad debt. I went from retail making $30k/year to making a chit ton more. My upward mobility is high. So I'd say my college debt isn't bad. But agree if you got 70k loans for underwater basket weaving or some fukkin social degree that doesn't pay chit, then yes. You made a bad investment.
just wanted to say that i agree most college students don't know what the fck they are doing with their lives. most enter at 18. i was stupid as fck back then not knowing what I wanted to do, and i wish i could have went the community college route first man. wasting two years taking general education courses that can be done cheaper at any CC, which would have saved me on rent and tuition for two years. now, at the end of my second year of college, I am just about to start on my major classes next semester. wasted two years imo that could have been more smartly spent, but again, i will learn from mistakes and do better in the future.

I was dating a girl for a brief moment. She was a manager at some retail clothing store, Had $35k in student debt, Was driving a financed $30k BMW and she was always blowing her checks at LV stores and trying to live a high end lifestyle.

I was like nope. I've worked too hard to get what i have just to support some sloot who cant manage money worth a chit.

19k debt on a credit card doesn't just pop out of the wild. Neither does debt on a car for 20k.
Remember OP, banks do not give a **** about you, all they want is their $$$ back (rightfully so). They will take your TV, computer, car, sue you, sue your children, etc.

Personally, this needs to be mandatory in every high school. The system is set up to get you in debt early and make sure you stay in debt. Not all debt is bad but the stuff you take on early on is.

Has OP answered how his gf was able to rack up 19k in cc debt yet? That is really incredible. I had 3k once and thought my life was going to end. Paid it off with a personal loan and then killed the personal loan in under a year. It's too late for her probably, not to be a dick. She needs to settle with them somehow.

they both make ~350k each now tho

I completely agree. Like I said, 3 classes mandatory at my HS, lot of schools in the area are doing the same thing.

Issue is, I come from a wealthier region of the country. I imagine lower income areas don't have this.

More focus on just getting kids to graduate, not what happens afterwards

Typical woman, can't discuss any of their problems with a level-head and instead have to cry and twist it into making themselves seem like a victim somehow.
