The juvenile responses in here are saddening. Ironic that this forum is full of socially retarded insecure pussies

OP nice post. You should invite her to workout with you.

Gotta' be the good we want to see in the world, yeah? OP sounds like he's genuinely considering helping out. But even if he doesn't, the fact that he sat down and listened to her is probably more than most people would have done.

Good to see people like this on the misc.

Very common, unfortunately. Ask if she has seen a psychologist, offer to take her to one, they can often iron out any lingering thoughts/problems srs. Start talking to her about her destructive tendencies, VERY SUBTLY, and in a month or so, if you want to risk this as you work in the same office as her, start taking walks. Help her improve somehow.

food is definitely a lifetime addiction for some people, like myself. boredom? turn to food. depressed? food. happy? let's cook something great or go to a delicious restaurant. also for social gatherings food is the place for many. and for many holidays it's always around, etc.

food in a way is life. food, water, oxygen, shelter, etc.

people buy abundantly large homes. usually as much as they can afford. often times the same goes for food. get a lot, way more than you need. lots of people drink excess alcohol as well. if excess water and oxygen were a thing, that would happen a lot too. tongs of people nowadays are addicted to money and material things.

most people have at least one addiction or something they overuse or have too much of.

I've been slowly realize recently that weight loss and fitness for most people is an emotional battle. I have absolutely ZERO emotional attachment to food. I'm extreme ecto so I have to eat a lot and sometimes I fail because I get lazy and/or in the past I just couldn't physically get that much food down. But that's about it. I don't "crave" foods, I don't sit there and phantasize about my next meal, i don't even really have a favorited food and if I had to give up ANY food, t would just be a case of schematics.

BUT.... And this is especially true for women....most people are a slave to their emotions. Even if they know exactly what they should or shouldn't be eating and they are motivated they will still lapse from time to time cause if their emotions. Those people often don't look for a roadmap to fitness or weight loss, they look for some magic that will completely change their emotional state so that their brain WANTS to not eat and be fit. It's a victim mentality and I don't get it but that seems to be how most people work and those people need to address their emotional problems if they ever hope to loose weight.

Good thread OP.

We all have our problems. Sometimes they catch up with us. Overweight people are just unfortunate in that they can't hide it like someone with a gambling can for instance. We shouldn't judge them. We should help them (IT THEY WANT OUR HELP).

People will judge you and trying to put you down no matter the way you look like. I myself been diagnosed with severe major depression and I gained 50 pounds in three years. Now I try to put my life in order. But when I see some comments here I don't really know what to think. For me I don't want to lose weight so that men will like me or approach me more because I already have a boyfriend. I'm just trying to lead a more healthier life and to be an exemple for the future children I will have. What happened to me thaught me that no matter the way I look there will always be people who will love me for who I am. That's the greatest feeling.

you have some great points in there. some real stuff for sure.

I would say that eating is mostly genetic. eating and having enough food was probably one of the biggest overall battles for survival in mankind's history. which is why it only makes sense that the majority of us are fatties on the inside and will overeat given the chance.

most dogs from my experience are the same way. you have to control their food intake, or they will become obese. it's instinctual. most people who didn't have this instinct strongly enough, are dead. the people who eat the most, are pushed the most and will keep going to get more food and an abundance of food, would survive better/more often.

so yes it's tied to emotions. but much more than that as well. it's the leptin and ghrelin and overall genetics. it's a built in system in most people to crave food, imagine food, and want to eat a lot and store some within the body. it's like a safety net. much like a lot of people want muscles or to learn to fight or have a gun for safety. a lot of people want tons of money or a stable career for safety/security. the body, instinctually wants excess fat storage for the same reasons. basically it's just a powerful response from many many things within the body that we don't even fully understand today, that drive people to want to eat more.

on diets, people like me will literally wake up at night, and often in hunger. many times I will literally have vivid dreams about food, etc. it's not merely an emotional thing. this is something that goes to the CORE of who you are and what makes you up. skinny people cannot understand that. for fat people it's basically unimaginable that you can "forget" to eat. that's like forgetting to breathe, almost. it just doesn't happen. and if you're someone like me, there's only extremely temporary fullness.

The one thing I will say is you need to make it clear to her early on that you see her as a sister/close friend. It's likely that she will continue to confide in you and develop an emotional attachment. Srs. You need to make sure the relationship goes in a healthy direction for her sake. Other than that I agree with other miscers, try to help her get in shape. You could really change her life.
"So live your life that the fear of death can never enter your heart. Trouble no one about their religion; respect others in their view, and demand that they respect yours. Love your life, perfect your life, beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and its purpose in the service of your people. . . . Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place." -Tecumseh

Yeah, I remember someone said something that's probably true...

For a lot of people overeating is a mental health issue, it's a way of coping with stress/unwanted emotions ie. comfort eating. And it's necessary for them to find different ways of coping, before they have the genuine motivation to lose weight.
