That article would lead you to believe that raising minimum wage would not have a significant affect on the cost of labor in the US.

That, is not true.

Sounds like you should be getting paid more for your expertise. I make around the same now as an office manager/controller for a small corp.

However I feel that lots of careers are underpaid, but thats the society we live in. Accept what they offer, negotiate up for more but ultimately take it because its the best offer or the fear of not getting another anytime soon.

I had plenty of OT, which brought me up to over $50k/year but I left for greener pastures. Getting paid much better now for a regular 40hr week.

Nice, I was sorta in the same boat. I got low-balled when I took a position at United Healthcare but I took it because it was money. I ended up being ranked #12 on a team of 100+ and I was getting paid the least. With OT I was working 50-60 hours per week which helped, but they refused to give me a merit raise based on my performance so I left and took my current job up there. 35-40 hours and make about the same as I was making with OT at the other place.

#2 I make roughly 35$/hr now, for example just to say that min wage is 10$ for easy math. if they raise it to 15$/hr then essentially I'm taking a 5$/hr paycut because I sure didnt get a raise.

Inflation for dummies:

If you have a pie and cut it into four slices, and each slice is $1, that means you have 1/4 pie buying power per dollar. If you cut the same pie into 1 million slices, and each slice is $1, you now have 1/1000000 pie buying power per dollar. Inflation is increasing the number of slices, without increasing the size of the pie.

brb inflation will mean $15/hour is poverty again
brb mcdonalds stops hiring high school kids, everything costs more so your savings don't mean chit
brb everyone on that welfare time
brb lazyamericans expected to work at McDonalds for $15 but McDonalds buys robots from Germany and Japanwhere kids educate themselves because they expect to grow up and do technical jobs; McDonald's profits don't go up much but american't income goes down. Who was taxes? Who was GDP?

lazy children of middle class people will always become poor, lazy children of upper class people will always become middle class etcIn the past, increasing the minimum wage had a temporary effect of reducing jobs that was followed by a long-term increase in jobs... but we are at another tipping point where automation can *almost* replace jobs at the current labor rates, and increasing the cost of labor will actually make automation affordable. Increased automation will reduce the cost of automation (economies of scale) and many low wage jobs will not return.
lol at using regan's voodoo economics as a gold standard. trickle down has been debunked time and time again. even george bush sr. attacked him for voodoo economics until he got the VP nod and had to tow the party line. George Bush Sr lost his 2nd term cause he had to raise taxes to help undue the damage reganomics did.

Why does raising the minimum wage offend you guys so much?

If you knew anything about inflation, the minimum wage was lapped by it decades ago.

Thanks, Reagan. You piece of chit.

Because the minimum wage is one of the things directly responsible for inflation..? Why the **** do you think China and Mexico produce 95% of our goods? Name one item of clothing made anywhere but SE Asia or South America. Find me a tech support worker who isn't in India. Etc...artificially raising wages for unskilled workers forces companies to move those jobs overseas, just to keep ahead of inflation. Minimum wage lags behind inflation, a problem it directly causes, because the government sets that, not companies. You expect the government to keep on track for ANYTHING? Literally LO-****ing-L

Until we address inflation, we truly cannot address min wage and what it should be. The reason 15$ is provided as min wage is due to inflation. Its a piece of chit system that isn't working for the actual citizens of US, but works extremely well for the businesses of the US.

clothing: american apparel, uniqlo makes jeans in the us now, danner makes somes boots in the US, so does Keen and new balance. but manufacturing as a whole is still never coming back, but that's not the sole driver of job loss here.

That's the 5%, bro.
tech support workers, i literally have an office next to them. also again, not the sole driver of job loss in the US.
...didn't say that.
minimum wage didn't cause inflation.
It's a direct contributor, absolutely is. Artificially increasing wages will always result in consumer goods rising in cost much more rapidly than organic wage increases. Couple this with rampant Fed overreach, (and a ridiculously low rate of .5% now) means we're on Weimar Republic time.

Wait guyz, all the cities which have implemented this like San Fransisco are just like the rest of America, there are literally no differences in anything, plus it's also worked out amazingly well every time.
All truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Second, it is violently opposed. Third, it is accepted as being self-evident.

Corporations and billionaires aren't your friends, their wealth isn't going to trickle down on you. Stop licking their boots you pathetic peasants.

Europeans realized this a long time ago, that's why they formed strong unions, fought for their rights and now enjoy solid pays, strong welfare and a high standard of living.
this. american can't help it tho. they are cucks by nature.

Exactly.

In the Middle Ages the church used religion to oppress the common people by brainwashing them into believeing that their suffering is temporary and they would get their reward in heaven.

These days the corporate media and republicans brainwash americans into thinking that they shoud just keep wage slaving 50 hrs a week and they too will one day be rich, and that welfare and unions are bad. Meanwhile, corporations and corrupt politicians continue hoarding all the money while the middle class shrinks.

Miscers are the biggest cucks of all; instead of fighting corporate tyranny they defend them bravely. Miscers are like the Africans who cooperated with europeans to enslave other africans, thinking they would be spared, only to end up as slaves themselves.

Etc...artificially raising wages for unskilled workers forces companies to move those jobs overseas, just to keep ahead of inflation.
so, you were saying it's driving jobs overseas, which it is in some sense, but it's not a huge component of job loss so it's not really relevant.
It's a direct contributor, absolutely is. Artificially increasing wages will always result in consumer goods rising in cost much more rapidly than organic wage increases. Couple this with rampant Fed overreach, (and a ridiculously low rate of .5% now) means we're on Weimar Republic time.
it's a direct contributor much like a single drop of water is a contributor to rain as a whole. it's a small portion of what creates inflation. you have many larger factors that are the true culprits such as government borrowing, supply shock, rise in demand relative to supply, inflation can be injected from the asset market, etc. minimum wage is a reaction TO inflation, but you could barely call it a direct driver of it.

I can see three possible scenarios...

1. Past the cost on to the consumer, the #1 meal will be $12.75.

2. Replace workers with kiosk machines to take your order.

3. Shut down a ton of stores and lay off employees at said stores.
The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living are now out numbered by those who vote for a living.
