People making too much to do menial jobs increases consumer goods costs, which makes wages go up across the board, resulting in inflation. Artificially increasing those wages accelerates the process. Explain to me exactly how this doesn't affect overseas jobs.
it's a direct contributor much like a single drop of water is a contributor to rain as a whole. it's a small portion of what creates inflation. you have many larger factors that are the true culprits such as government borrowing, supply shock, rise in demand relative to supply, inflation can be injected from the asset market, etc. minimum wage is a reaction TO inflation, but you could barely call it a direct driver of it.

This is exactly my concern, I don't give a rats ass about the $15/hr minimum wage crowd, McDonalds was supposed to be a job for high school kids and college kids splitting rent with a couple of roommates while they pursue an education and a house on the hill. Yup. My GF has been working in her field for about 15 year and doesn't make that much more than $15 / hour. She had a second job at Lowes for a while just to get a little extra money. That's what happens when you go into a field like psych. But there's no way a burger flipper should make the same. She works some tough hours dealing with actual crazy people. lol The coworkers who have a masters degree only make $1 more than she does too. Only the doctors make any decent money in that field.

Thank you, like I said earlier my wife got lucky and ended up in a field that pays somewhat decently, but for the vast majority of college graduates they're looking at years of struggling under debt before their education begins to actually show fruit.

I can safely say a year and half ago when I was a senior in HS, I didn't deserve 15/HR or $1 for 4 minutes of my time.

I was making $12.65/hour average by the time I graduated, and even that seemed high ish to me

$15/hour * 40 hours/week * 50 weeks/year = $30,000/year for a McDonalds employee
$30,000/12 months = $35,000/x months
number of months it would take for the robot to start paying for itself = x = 14 months

McDonalds is a huge corporation with the financial means to take the short term hit and make that investment, especially when it means 100% of what they currently pay employees gets added straight to their profits, their stock price goes up, they win.

$7.25/hour * 40 hours/week * 50 weeks/year = $14,500/year for a McDonalds employee
$14,500/12 months = $35,000/x months
number of months it would take for the robot to start paying for itself = x = 29 months

I understand the argument that raising the minimum wage will lead to jobs being automated, but then why isn't it happening yet? To me, the extra 15 months it would take for the investment to start paying for itself shouldn't be the difference between making the investment or not. Also, this calculation assumes the machine does the exact same job as the worker, though I would bet it does a better job.

I actually agree with the guy that the minimum wage shouldn't be raised, and actually think it should be lowered or abolished, but I don't really think his argument is that great.

I really can't believe that some people support making $15/hr for min. wage. Do some of you monkeys actually believe it's going to be a good thing?
