Who do you guys think is most likely to challenge Red Bull this year? Mercedes, Ferrari or McLaren?

I'm thinking Ferrari for race wins at the start of the season and Mercedes for the season overall.

McLaren

Ferrari will be quick and consistent if they can nail their strategies but we all know they can't and Leclerc is a mental midget

At this rate they should look to drop him, not Sainz, and bring in someone who can stand up to the pressure.

Almost impossible but Alonso with that car for one last run at a WDC, hnnnnnnnngggggg

Mercedes will continue as they left off, fuking up different things and Toto blaming everyone but himself and his drivers

Seems like McLaren ended the season as the strongest of “the rest”. If they were able to continue that momentum through the off season, they could be very strong this season.

I have a hard time believing Mercedes will be ass for a third season in a row, but I guess we’ll see.

Ferrari, who fking knows. I saw today that they finally fired their lead strategist. Something they should have done a LONG time ago.

off topic: Carlos Sainz SR is still leading the DAKAR RALLY halfway through stage 6. He actually opened a margin and the leading Toyota crashed out of the rally.

So glad they run this event when F1 is off-season... Very fun to follow.

It's a grueling race. 2 weeks of absurd mileage through dunes. The coverage is obviously difficult to make look good because they're out in the middle of nowhere driving 300+ miles at a time, but NBC motorsports youtube channel, and the DAKAR official youtube channel both have good recaps of every stage. After you get a feel for "who's who" it becomes incredible to follow, and see where different drivers fuk up, or how they purposely do bad in a stage in order to be a FOLLOWER car for the next day, etc.

They NEED to do more coverage with dashcam footage, and on-the-ground repair coverage because the drivers repair their own suspension when it fails mid-stage, and it's very interesting if you're into that kind of stuff.

I closely follow LOEB, NASSER, and SAINZ. The bike guys I have no idea wtf is going on, except for the American riders, but even then.

1. RBR - obviously everybody is playing catch-up with them and overall, they don't have any weakness to think that they won't be the best team again this year

2. Mclaren - their progress last year showed that they know what they are doing and are in the right direction. Norris and Piastri are great and the team pitstops are great.

3. Ferrari - Ferrari are such a wildcar. Even with their organisation being trash they were able to catch Merc in 17/18 which was almost impossible at the time. Also they started the regulation with the upper hand. Overall they know how to build a car. If they fix their organisation issues, I believe they can catch up.

4. Mercedes - IMO Merc will be like last year again. There is a novelty about them that they are good but now that the engine advantage is no longer there, their team is exposed as even more clumsy than Ferrari. Only reason they ended up 2nd last year is because the car was reliable while McLaren was dogshyt slow the first half and Ferrari spend the whole season understanding their car and what direction to take. Once both teams started to get a better idea, they ended up with quicker cars in the last few races.

5. Aston - don't really have faith in Aston imo. They don't know how to develop a car. Their jumpstart last year was because they kind of followed the RedBull design way earlier than the other teams.

Looks like many of you brahs have high expectations of McLaren. Will be interesting to see if they can continue the good 2023 form.

Verstappen and RBR 100% unless someone pulls a Brawn which is very unlikely.

I guess McLaren, Ferrari, Merc are all in the mix to luck into 1 or 2 wins if everything comes together. McLaren seems to be the best of the bunch currently and I have high hopes for Oscar.

Aston is the dark horse, it would be so epic if they can provide Alonso with a competitive car, but doubt they could mount a serious challenge for the title even if they came out swinging again.

Yeah, this is true, but how realistic is it that Ferrari have suddenly fixed their race operations? In order to compensate for their chit tier execution their car would have to be miles ahead. Feels like this team couldn't win a championship if their life depended on it.

Then Leclerc and Sainz still need to keep it on track, which is also far from a given + not fukk each other over the season.

Holy chit, Carlos Sainz SR is still leading the DAKAR rally with 2 days remaining. Sebastian Loeb is only 13min 22sec behind, which is wild considering that the total elapsed driving time is 41 hours. It's very easy to have a mechanical issue, or a lot of punctures on a stage and give up 30 minutes or more.

Would be SICK if Sainz can hang on and win.

I assumed Loeb was going to win this year (he probably will), but I'm hoping Sainz can do it. This would be a complete underdog victory. He's 61 years old but still SHREDDING.

The other two AUDI cars (Sainz's teammates) are out of contention, so they are racing in close proximity to Sainz to offer support if he has a mechanical issue.

Loeb has no teammates still in the race, so he's on his own.

Toyota boys are sitting an hour back in 3rd place, and could still easily win if Loeb/Sainz both encounter trouble.

Looks like the moto guys had a death in one of the bike categories this year. RIP.

If RB keeps Perez, and I would expect at least two McLaren wins this year, then yeah - McLaren takes constructors title for sure

I know he's getting older and I've got that Aussie nostalgia going on but if Danny Ric gets back into the #2 Red Bull seat they're taking the WDC for Max and constructors title as well

Well, the old man did it. Stage 11 Loeb fuked up his front control arm, and Sainz ends up 1hr27min ahead in first, then stage 12 was just easy-peasy with a gap like that. Sainz still ended the rally 1hr20min ahead in first.

What an incredible event.

Sainz was driving the AUDI rally car, which AUDI is now pulling out of endurance rally to focus all their money and effort into F1... Maybe they'll re-think that now.

I mean judging on layout alone, everyone thought Vegas was going to be absolute ass, but it turned out to be one of the best races of the entire season.
