I'm terribly afraid that there may be no God and no life of the age to come

I reflected deeply on Matthew 16:28

Truly I tell you, there are some standing here who will not taste death before they see the Son of Man coming in his kingdom


and in all likelihood this confirms that Jesus, the Son of God, made the biggest prophecy of his entire ministry right there and it simply wasn't fulfilled. So where does that leave us? Pretty much nowhere, I think it could all be a big nothing and the church has been able to cover this up for 2000 years and camouflage this with a lot of mental gymnastics about the transfiguration and resurrection which don't make any sense at all and would be laughable if they weren't downright saddening.

So if this is all true I can only tell you lads that it's been an honor posting with you all.

The Bible was written by man. With errors and contradictions and failed prophecies all over it. The Bible is not God. This does not mean you can not have faith in the deity represented by the Tetragrammaton, if you’d like.

I’m a Christian even though I intellectually understand the scriptures are most likely a work of fiction. We can still pray to the God of Israel and hope it’s actually having some effect. I also still give to the church because they are doing good works in the community.

If the Bible has documented that the most important prophecy made by the son of God, a prophet with divine capacities, completely failed and nobody even cares, people perpetuate obvious lies to cover it up, then how could you still have any faith? it doesn't make any sense

these don't necessarily contradict  Matthew 16:28, this just says he doesn't know the exact date or hour, but he does know it will be within the lifetime of some of his disciples, the point being here that 2000 years later we can be assured that prophecy failed

Matthew 16:28 references the second death. There's also a mistranslation. It's more like.
"Hear when I say, those of you who stand tall before the son will not taste death, and will witness as the father delivers the kingdom of heaven to man."
When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose hearts are filled with the fear of death, so that when their time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home.

I just looked up a translation made by my favorite Theologian who is a hardcore believer and it goes like

"I am telling you the truth: there are some people standing here who will not die until they see the Son of Man coming in his Kingdom.”

So I think you're wrong. Unless you can demonstrate with the original text

It's a terrible timing to get struck with this lightning bolt of doom right at the dawn of my extended 4 day weekend. I feel completely depressed about the foresight of there being no second coming, no resurrection, no life eternal. We just got a few years left after which we'll drop dead and rot. Grim

Yep once you see it, you can’t unsee it. It took me about a month to deconstruct and then reconstruct into something more personally honest.

Matthew, Mark and John all report the transfiguration happening roughly a week after that verse. for a reason.
