The Stock Market

Da Fug is going on? They're saying it's because of the salary increase and good Jan job numbers.

Are there any good sources to read on this other than Yahoo!'s finance?

Friday’s jobs report sparked worries over the prospects for inflation and a surge in bond yields, as well as concerns the Federal Reserve will raise rates at a faster pace than expected.
This. It was expected.

Automated trades once the dow got below 25,000. So once it hit 25,000 it fell even faster.

We were due for a market correction and this is it.

We are long overdue for a correction. Best case for us would be a few thousand point drop and then reasonable growth again. If we fall below 20k, look out below boyos.

PE of the General market was about 26. The 100 year mean/median is about 15. Reversion to mean and lower means dropping from 26000 to about 11000.

Get out now.

I don't disagree, but I think even at 24k the market is over valued. I'd see a drop below 22k - 20k to mean things could get really bad. 24k would only be a 7.5% pullback from highs and the market grew like 25% last year alone. Hell Trump's tweeted about it and mentioned it enough.

Parabolic rise in price never ends well. Look for about a 48% drop over the next year or so.

Gold stocks are really the only play here, other than going to cash.

Really makes no sense to drop now. Economy is doing well, profits will instantly rise for companies with the new tax code (fewer taxes= more profits). We actually have things in place to fuel growth.

I’m fine with any dip, I’m young and can weather any storm. Buying on discount for a while would be fine. But rationally, this week nothing changed from recently when we were hitting highs.

Most cash is already in the market unfortunately.

I just did backdoor Roth conversion on Friday to buy today, so that is 5.5k for me and another 5.5k for the wife.

Just put 70k into a real estate investment, otherwise that would have gone in with the latest dip. It just came out of a CD and needed a place to go.

For the kids ITT wondering “wut do?”

I’ll pretty much sill stick with my 2013 post

FIRST OF ALL- PLAN YOUR MONTHLY BUDGET, AND LIVE BY IT(20% LESS THAN YOUR BRING HOME MONTHLY INCOME)

Then follow these steps, do not proceed to the next step until the previous step is complete

1. Acquire life insurance- 20 yrs or longer term(not the whole life crap) you want it to last long enough until your youngest is 18, so if you don't have kids yet, maybe get a 30yr term now. You want to get it while your younger and health

2. Acquire long term disability insurance. This one is debateable, I personally would get it.

3. Save an emergency fund- enough liquidity for you go go 6 months without working if something happens

4. eliminate all debt(except in some cases home mortgage)- math will tell you some debt is ok, whatever- buy it or do without

5. start a roth IRA or regular IRA depending on what you qualify for. If you qualify for a Roth, do it, once you make enough money, you will no longer qualify for it. Save 15% towards retirement

6. If you are living by above budget(20% less than monthly bring home) you should start acquiring excess money monthly to either buy a house with, or invest more aggressively. This is also the money you can start your own buisness with.

Since you are still single, you have the opportunity to be smart about your pick for a sqouse. You can find someone you love of coarse, but there are plenty to choose from that are also financially conservative, and make money. Get their credit report before you get serious. I know love is love, but there are millions to choose from that keep their money in order.
Now I’d add if you have an employer matching 401(k) contributions do that first

If you aren’t market savvy stick with index fund etf’s

For the ira I’d go with above or a targeted retirement fund such as vanguard’s

https://investor.vanguard.com/mutual...-retirement/#/

As far as timing goes stick with dollar cost averaging and disregard these swings.

Also never mix political beliefs with investing.
