it doesnt make sense since most republicans work and most dems dont work so republicans need the holiday to vote more than dems

A national holiday won't solve voter turn out, particularly if you can't make it on election day. The dude who works in retail, food and hospitality, security, etc still work on federal holidays.
The easiest solution is to extend the number of voting days, say, Friday-Sunday, or, Sun-Tuesday.

It would just give Federal workers the day off. Not private workers. Elections should just be over a weekend. Sat/Sun

I don't understand what the thought process is to making it a national holiday.
will voter turnout increase if voting day is moved to Saturday?
I, personally, am going to say that if I had the day off of work for voting day it would lower the chances of me voting.

With that said states I guess can do whatever they want for state elections but there should be federal law that mandates states require proof of citizenship for federal elections.

Don't most states allow you to vote 15-30 days early? I'm not really sure I understand what the point would be, there's tons of access.
As far as voter ID's. I would be all for welfare coordinating with the DMV so that those who can not afford an ID (and even for those who choose not to obtain a driver license) can obtain a free State Non drivers ID card. Seems pretty f*cking simple and inexpensive.

You realize that the US is unique in the developed world in that we don't require any verification of identity to vote, right? Many third world countries have voter ID laws as well.
Edit: My apologies, apparently Australia is fuktarded too. So two countries.

But then again, they work on National Holidays as well, so...
That said - Saturday would lower my chances of voting.

No day is perfect for everyone but can anyone argue that Saturday wouldn't be the best available option?
Make it 6-6 Saturday, what % of the population is working during that entire time frame? .0001%? And for those people there is early voting etc.

This past midterm it was pouring rain. But I voted on my way to work - I was already out and I could always use voting for being a little late. But if it was pouring rain and on a Saturday and I don't have to leave my house and the race it's something like voting for Pat Toomey, I have to hold my nose to do, I could see myself staying home.
There is the contingent of people who will vote no matter what. But there is a large contingent that have to either be compelled by a candidate to vote or will vote out of convenience - I think Saturday may lower it for them if they feel they have better things to do.
