Feel free to pull up transcripts his earlier speeches where it *seems* he certainly says things like this to appeal to the voters, from around 1858 especially.

A few of you have still fallen for yanked revisionist history.

Lincoln wouldn't have done jack for the slaves without also being able to conquer the South. He wanted to let the South keep their slaves at first, so long as he was in control of them money coming off the backs of slave labor. When that ended up being hard to accomplish, he wrote the EP as a a war measure to sway all the sheeple to be on his side.

He signed the emancipation proclamation in 1863. He wrote the damn thing in 1862 just needed a major victory (in the form of Antietam) to sign it.

He pushed the 13th amendment hard.

Honestly, it didn’t take much to sway anyone’s moral opinion to the north. I’m rather proud of the fact when my state of MD, a border state, had a vote to abolish slavery, the vote to abolish was approved when the absentee ballots of her troops fighting the south were counted.

The confederacy was the worst part of the south’s history and it only lasted a paltry 4 years. And having been all up and down the east coast, I fukkin love the south. Some ghost just won’t move on.
