There are other things that aren't allowed to be online.

Certain military equipment prints for one - they can be digital but not allowed to be on a computer hooked up to a network.

I see that point I guess. To me states being able to have broad discretion about voting in Federal elections is nuts to being with and will result in all kinds of weirdness compared to almost anywhere else.

It all goes back to the electoral college and when it was formed there was nothing that said the states had to use popular votes to determine the electors' votes.

That decision was left to the states individually and several founders wanted it to be the Governor's decision. Or state legislature

This is my stance. This whole idea that we need to "get out the vote" is BS in my opinion. If you're so checked out of the process that you need a reminder by some celebrity to vote, you're probably not a worthwhile voter.

He got stonewalled by a bunch of Democrat run states.

As Trump isn't actually an authoritatian, he has no authority to force states to turn over polling results. As such, it died before it got started.
