Trump has done tremendous work fighting ISIS and in Syria. I am not sure a complete withdrawal from Syria is the right move here. Too many other bad actors are just waiting to fill the void in the long term and it is a good strategic position to be in. We have allies that need protecting. I would prefer pulling out of Afghanistan where the cost to benefit ratio is high.

Lindsay Graham is talking about ISIS like they're a singular group or locale. We have done everything we need to to dwindle the ISIS mindset in the area. It's up to Syria (Assad) to handle it from here. ISIS will never be destroyed, effectively we have beaten the ideology into submission in the area. If it grows again to a real threat we can handle it again.

Think of Nazi Germany. By all accounts the Nazi regime was eradicated during WW2. As well all know "Nazi" isnt a location it's a mindset, there are still "Nazi's" today despite them being "wiped out" in WW2. Effectively ISIS is no longer a true threat in the area of Syria, there will always be "ISIS", but why does Graham think that America is the only entity on earth capable of defeating a dwindling ideology? He has no reason for wanting to keep our troops there other than "the boogeymancouldcome back". Theres a real threat that ISIS could come back in any country as a cell and grow, no matter how many American troops are stationed there.

Can you expand on your belief why we need to keep troops in Syria?

just as i always say, trump views the military as his toy soldiers, and it's clear that at least the leadership feels that way based on this decision.
everybody is freaking out (except 5th avenue trumpers of course)

it's not hard to see how trump ran businesses into the ground. handling issues like this is exactly how you do it

Who is freaking out? I've seen Lindsay Graham, but he's a warmonger politician. I know that the pentagon was sort of caught by surprise by this (and probably would have liked to be consulted...), but I haven't seen anything I would call a "freak out". Are there people who are not either politicians or media that are freaking out?

It's not just CNN reporting this. In fact, a US pullout is a huge win for Russia and the Assad regime. The question is does it matter? What are we trying to "win" in Syria? A proxy war with Russia? Why? I think getting out of a disastrous war that we never should have even been in is a good move regardless of who "won" or "lost".

perhaps freak out was hyperbole, but just weeks ago we had military officials stressing the importance of presence in syria. i think it was on 12/11 in a briefing. maybe things have changed since then but i wouldnt bet on it. hell, just the sheeer fact that military leadership or anybody in the pentagon didnt even knew that this was going down. i dont know how they wouldnt be freaking out over this. if youre going off their comments in recent weeks

the pressure is so high that im thinking trump will end up backing down on this. which would be insane in it's own right. i dont know how you lead like that and survive
