I wonder why republicans don't want a national holiday for voting

Why would it need to be a national holiday? Aren't workplaces already required by law to let people go out to vote at some point during their work day if there is no reasonable way the person could work around it off of work? Also, what about just sending in absentee ballots if you don't like showing up to the polls on election day? Seems like just another excuse for people to get out of work for the day entirely, if you ask me.

Private companies don't have to abide by federal holidays. Just because you have a federal holiday for voting, doesn't mean the turnout will be higher. Theoretically maybe a little higher if all these people vote, but I don't think there will be much change.

the higher the voter turnout, the better our democracy functions.
republicans love their voter suppression and gerrymandering to rig the elections (and now they're full into blown foreign collusion) because they know their views are wildly unpopular with the nation as a whole.

Odd that OP is taking the angle of nefarious motives by the R's as they would actually stand to gain the most from a national holiday for voting.

It's typical to see those of the left to support voting for the most amount of people possible (democrats) and it's typical to see those on the right be okay with suppression so long as they are the ones withholding the power (republicans).
Let's not forget the real reason the GOP want to suppress votes:

Hence Lindsey Graham breaking down into tears when they almost couldn't shove through Kavanaugh to rig the Supreme Court in their favor.

National holiday is stupid.
Open polls for 72 hours, 3 days in a row. Problem solved.

Whether that's a legitimate complaint or not would be a long debate.
That said, it's also why when people say, "Voter fraud doesn't happen" it's complete BS. Because thereis no traceability. 10 minutes after I leave the polling station, there's absolutely no way for me to know if my vote was thrown in the trash and another replaced it.

In Canada employers have to give you time to vote. You don't get the day off but you can leave work to vote. We have early voting as well.
You have to show you id to vote. It can be a provincial id or a drivers license but you need it to vote. Who the hell doesnt have id's?

Interesting post. You seem to think that skin color is a limiting factor when it comes to ideas and beliefs that people poses. Neat.https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-a...nsus-projects/

Of course a triggered liberal worth zher salt would be remiss if zhe didn't mention Kavanaugh at least once.Trigger me timbers.

Early voting and mail-in voting in the USA IS A THING. Everyone knows this, right?
I'm not blessed with riches, but I am rich with blessings.

No democracy should want to reduce the number of legal votes cast in an election.
go ahead and make it a holliday, idgaf, but also require ID. fair is fair. and yes, every legal citizen is fully capable of getting an ID. if they are physically capable of voting then they are also capable of acquiring id.
