chicago police and Mayor just had a press conference. They are pissed. The president of the Fraternal Order of Police said at the presser that they have requested the States Attorney be investigated and they want the FBI and Postal Service to look into filing Federal charges against Smollet

Not really, the prosecutors just blew the case. People forget the jury was hidden away from the public, and many mistakes were made. The glove not fitting, which was explained on TV but not in court. The DNA mishandling. Star witness lying about saying the n-word. Marcia Clark and Darden banging around.

What's to stop the next person from pulling the same stunt if there's no repercussion? Nobody knew who this guy was before this incident and now his PR is through the roof and he can claim innocence.

Deferred deal. Not an exoneration.

He has to stay out of trouble for a certain amount of time and then it’ll get wiped. DAs will sometimes allow this in cases where the person has an otherwise clean record and it’s something small. He undoubtedly only got it because of his connections, wealth, and celebrity status though.

I don’t see how this disproves white privilege though. One instance doesn’t make a pattern.

Legit. They had to acquit him. So much of the evidence was compromised that in any other case, the trial would have been dismissed. Even on day one the crime scene was mishandled.

In a stunning move on Tuesday morning, prosecutors in Chicago dropped all charges against the “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett, who had been accused of staging a hate crime attack in the city’s downtown in January.

“After reviewing all of the facts and circumstances of the case, including Mr. Smollett’s volunteer service in the community and agreement to forfeit his bond to the city of Chicago, we believe this outcome is a just disposition and appropriate resolution to this case,” the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office said in a statement.

It did not elaborate on whether any new information had surfaced that weakened the case against Mr. Smollett or whether prosecutors had simply changed their mind about pursuing the case. Mr. Smollett’s bond payment was $10,000.

In a statement, Anne Kavanagh, a spokeswoman for Mr. Smollett’s lawyers, said: “Today, all criminal charges against Jussie Smollett were dropped and his record has been wiped clean of the filing of this tragic complaint against him. Jussie was attacked by two people he was unable to identify on Jan. 29. He was a victim who was vilified and made to appear as a perpetrator as a result of false and inappropriate remarks made to the public causing an inappropriate rush to judgment.”

The statement went on: “Jussie is relieved to have this situation behind him and is very much looking forward to getting back to focusing on his family, friends and career.”

Why wouldn't he be outraged? He has no control over what the SA does or the judge does. He obviously was backing the Police Superintendent up who has every right to be outraged considering Jussie basically said they are full of shiet.

Meh I think OJ was guilty. I also wouldn't have found him guilty after the police captain plead the 5th on the planting evidence question.

I think the police tried to strengthen their case and got caught doing so.
