Let's be real for just once. Obama added to the debt to 1, try to pull the country out of a likely economic depression not seen in 80 years, and 2, to insure millions of Americans who previously had no healthcare. Now the merits of these two actions can be debated but the reality is that he wasn't putting the country further into debt simply to enrich the corporate barons and Wall St. billionaires like this bill does.

Is there an Democratic action you can't come up with mental gymnastics to justify?

You're kind of middle age so you must remember what things were like back in '08. What do you think would have happened if the government had done nothing?

And I clearly said that both actions were debatable. But neither action was a giveaway to the upper 1% like this tax bill is.

That was one option for sure. The other option was to invest to grow in the future. So Obama took the 2nd option which put money in people's pockets so it made the most political sense as well. imho I agreed with this approach, the ACA is anther issue entirely since the projections (something I do for a living) were so widely off regarding the number of healthy young people that would join the exchanges that it calls into question the entire process and plan. At the very least, contingent plans should have been prepared for something as catastrophic to the entire foundation behind universal health as the dearth of young people.

This is a little off topic but anyone that truly thought young people would enroll at even half the projected rate are confirmed idiots.

Agreed off topic and I also agree with your assessment. And the sad thing is that young people enrolling at a specific level was the key to the whole thing working. The ACA honestly would be fine if that had happened.

Obama definitely gave away to the top 1%. In particular that's what the bank bailouts were, handing money to wealthy people. I was against the auto bailouts in principle. I felt like Ford, Tesla, etc should have been able to grab market share when Chrysler and GM chit the bed. I feel now that I was wrong. Chrysler still kind of sucks but GM restructured and they are significantly better positioned now than before the recession. One of the reasons why I hated bailing out a company like GM was because they got themselves into their own mess, letting the unions bend them over and produce vehicles that had no business being produced, just to keep union workers happy. That was one great thing that came out of the recession, GM had a chance to get out of some of those terrible labor agreements.

In the end Obama's attempt to save the economy by throwing money at "shovel ready jobs" that weren't shovel ready...still had a positive effect in my industry (construction). Its not that we felt the impact of the money directly or right away, but what it DID do was give confidence that someone with tons of money was trying to do SOMETHING. And whatever they did in the banking world (not my expertise) helped as well. We had pinned up demand with owners who wanted to build facilities, but banks weren't lending. Something happened and they finally let the money loose, and we experienced a mini construction boom after being down for a few years.

Again, I have issues with all of the money that was spent...in principle. But as I've said before, if you are Obama, you don't get a second shot at it. You are either right, or you are wrong, and you have to live with the results. He chose to go down swinging, rather than stand put on principle...possibly watching the entire economy implode. That's not to say that it would have, but he doesn't have the benefit of hindsight and what ifs. The ACA had too many built in flaws for me to feel good about it. It was written by the insurance industry and designed to fail so the next step could be taken. And in the end all it was was a Medicaid expansion, covering an additional 3% or so of the country. It did too much damage overall for that 3% to be worth it.

You should trying living in Texas. The property tax is insane. We briefly looked at relocating and tax rate ranged from 3-5%. You are taxed by the local municipality, the local school and the county.

Interesting comparison. I have to ask: What do you and your wife do for work? I ask because comparing people to governments is an odd comparison and I thought you were in finance industry.

VERY TRUE those with no memories of the AIG, Leheman Brothers, credit default swaps will always deny the facts, and the condition we were in in 2007.

Liberal ranting cliffs:
Massive deficits (D) = no big deal because excuses and stuff
10% of those deficits (R) = horrible end of the world and we’re all gonna die and billionaires suck!

I guess the repeal of the mandate will signal the death of Obamacare but it needs to be massively changed anyway.

Put me down as a yes vote for this tax reform.
This brah constantly cries about the Blumpf's tax cuts for the rich, yet he supported this bill.

My school taxes are 3x my property taxes.

Why do I pay the same school tax as someone with 5 kids when I have none?

Why are seniors still being extorded for school tax?

I see why schumer is against this, all his rich friends with multiple properties can't claim as much on taxes.
However, people with family cottages on lakes and such are going to get raped since our property tax is just out of control.
