Been going through a decent amount of posts ITT and personally I think most misunderstandings on this topic come from the issue of 1) whether foreigners have a god-given right to impose their presence to any country they wish 2) the predisposition of Muslims towards violence.

Look at it this way, of all the Muslims in the world you mainly have 5 categories:

#1 those who directly engage in violent terrorist acts

#2 those who provide #1 with financial, material, logistical, political/diplomatic support

#3 those who provide #1 with moral support

#4 those who stay neutral

#5 those who sincerely oppose #1

No, #4 is the biggest group. Same as in any society. Most people don't want to be bothered with all that sht, they just want to go to work or school, come home and have dinner with their families or friends, read a book, watch the telly or shag their spouse, then go to bed and sleep safely.

He got 19 primary votes in the last election. He wasn't elected, but a guy in his party (One Nation, racist Queensland party) got turfed out of parliament for being a dual citizen, so after a countback with the complex flow of preferences he got in. He resigned from his party thevery dayhe was sworn in, he joined another party (Katter's Australia Party, another Queensland party just only sorta racist), said that there needs to be a "final solution to the immigration problem" (at the least, an unfortunate choice of words showing why most MPs have speechwriters who do things like check history) and got chucked out, so formed his own party - which isn't a party registered with the Australian Electoral Commission, because you need 500 members for that, and Anning can't find 500 people in the country who want him in parliament.

The next half-Senate election must be held by mid-May, so he'll be turfed out then. This is just a loser who's desperate for attention, so it's natural he's sympathetic to a terrorist.
