Oliveira out of UFC 294, Volk steps in short notice

Damn, bummer. And NEW!

I thought Gamrot was the step-in guy.

volk is a fukin stud but i dont know how i feel about this. he just had surgery on his wrist and said he wasnt gonna fight till early next year

now he is taking the fight on 10 days notice

would have liked to see him at 100% but then again maybe the surgery wasnt terrible and he has been staying in shape

In one of his interviews before surgery (June or July) he said it's only a 6 week recovery and he'll be ready for Islam in October.

Not that I'm complaining but Volk is going to fight Islam then going to fight Tuporia a few months later. Gamrot was the backup, they should just give it to him or let Geathje get his underserved 3rd title shot already.
Fk the Good Poster Crew (Lockdev, Pink, Kimm, Wasps, Expatriot, Mulloway, Luc1fer, Smallpeter, gwg, Super Hercules, Bonobo, maori-rap, Based Bagel, ezmac31, Goobaa, Godfrd and many more). You know who you are.

Yeah I'm with you here. I doubt he's 100% but Dana must have thrown huge money at him so he accepts.

Islam is better of fighting Volk, Oliveria is too technical a match up, Islam needs the pitbull to test his skills on, hes become too much of an athlete and lost what I call the Pit Fighting nature of MMA, he needs volk to test that chin again and to teach him to stop being arrogant and to listen to his coaches game plan rather than what he makes up on the spot

More excited for this matchup to be honest.
Bodybuilding is a lifetime journey, anytime spent not bulking or cutting is a waste of time.

Wish Volk would've had a full camp as I'm not sure he gets a 3rd shot if he loses.
Wouldn't be surprised if he goes in super aggressive with his hands early on looking to either finish or get ahead on the scorecards.

He is 35 though and the lighter guys start declining about now so maybe there's no time like the present.

I have a feeling given his build/style, he may not decline the way most guys 170 and under do.

Props to Usman for taking this fight on short notice.
Interested in seeing Chimaev vs a grappler who will hopefully try to put him on his back.

Judging Usman strictly based off his last performance though, I think Khamzat is the big favorite.

Excited for Khazmat vs Usman. But really wanted to see Khazmat-Costa due to all the trash talking back and forth. The press conference would have been lulzed.

I didn't want to see Costa or Chimaev lose against each other. i'll be happy if Chimaev can beat usman

Volk-Islam is a good match but 10 days notice is going to be hard for volk to last 5 rounds. hopefully he can score a knockout early

Lot of different news sites could be reporting differently I'm sure. I read this one:

https://mmajunkie.usatoday.com/2023/...weeks-of-rehab

“It’s not a big deal. I’ll be back ASAP,” Volkanovski said at the UFC 290 post-fight press conference. “It will be a quick one. I just need to get something sorted, but I’ll be training. I broke my hand last International Fight Week, and you’ll see me ready to fight in Abu Dhabi to fight Islam or Charles Oliveira. This ain’t a broken bone. We’ll be alright. I’ll be training. I want to be active.”

HNNG @ Usman Chimaev btw. Chimmy takes it, I hope he starts fighting 3x a year again but the $$$ from sponsors is too good.

When the crazy Brazilian is saved from a murder charge against the frail khabib wannabe who fell in love with money and forgot to fight more than x1 every two years. Typical. Toughest guy at the barbecue syndrome incoming.

Man I wish Tank was born in this era, he would flat line all these nobodies in an open weight class
