Why are MMA fighters chins so bad?

If we are being real.

Those two guys in there were like bambi on ice whenever each other landed a glancing blow.

Other than rare exceptions like Dan Henderson most of these guys have no whiskers whatsoever and will go down off a strong breeze.

The gloves size don't really matter

It's just weird

Like when one of MMA's best strikers fought Floyd mayweather, Floyd thought so little of his power he didn't even bother to defend after feeling it and just walked him down. Floyd was laughing at the same shots that MMA guys got hit with and went down like 10 million volts had just hit their central nervous system.

So we know they don't hit that hard in comparrison to say boxers, but also boxers are able to eat bombs and dig in and fight back. Of course you get your occasional glass chinned boxer like an Amir Khan or someone like that, but an MMA fighter with Amir Khan chin would just have an average chin.

part of it is weight cutting and trying to maximize the cutting for the division they are in for the size advantage.

but lol, there are so many guys with amazing chins. it's just as you go up higher in weight, your "chin" doesn't scale linearly with the amount of power generated at that weight class. hence why you see more 1 or 2 punch knockouts at 185 or higher.

for sure Floyd has a good chin, but he also doesn't cut a lot of weight and just has good defensive instincts overall. part of your "chin" is being caught off guard or surprise. that never really happens to floyd, even if he just walked down Conor. not to mention Conor is a 155er. yeah they have power there but it's not anywhere near higher weight classes.

in mma there's far more tools you can be hit with, whereasin boxing you have two weapons and almost always go to the head, sometimes body. so statistically the average boxer SHOULD have a better chin than the average mma fighter. It's just logical

Smaller gloves, and you were watching a higher weight class than most boxing stars are in. These guys also haven't been getting their necks work for 20 years and have to train multiple disciplines so it makes sense a boxer would be stronger in that aspect.
Most significantly though is you stance and movement in mma. You can't just shoulder roll punches because a kick or knee or takedown could be coming at any second. Philly she'll probably doesn't work with head kicks available.

But a guy like GGG is certainly a monster that nobody in the ifc can compete with in terms of chin. That's just a numbers game and you are more likely to get more genetics freaks in a more popular sport.

1) cutting weight makes it way worse

2) some theorize the chin is like an HP bar in a video game, except it can't replenish. It has a finite amount. So when your chin goes, it goes. This seems to hold true with tons of fighters.
Awesome pics. Great size. Look thick. Solid. Tight. Keep us all posted on your continued progress with any new progress pics or vid clips. Show us what you got man. Wanna see how freakin' huge, solid, thick and tight you can get. Thanks for the motivation.

IMO the weight cut Alex did for his last fight did affect his chin. It's not that he has a "bad" chin I don't believe, but he's a big MW.

It's because it's 4 oz gloves dummies

Watch BKFC, almost every fight is a knockout. The less covered hands are, the more lethal they are

It's not rocket science

i haven't watch power slap but i'm sure it has a lot of KOs and it's not even punches

The size of the glove definitely does matter. A smaller surface area = more concentrated impact and less padding = more force. Adesanya landed two full power bombs to the size of Alex's head though. I'm pretty sure 99% of fighters would've dropped from that.

One thing about boxers is that they are obviously far superior at seeing punches coming and rolling with them. Even if it's a very subtle movement. They always say it's the shots you don't see coming are the ones that hurt. I think that plays a part.

Know how we know you've never been punched with a 4oz MMA glove or a 10oz-16oz boxing glove before?

Its a combination of weight cutting, glove weight, and glove size.

I would say the force of Izzy's fists contacting Alex's face was by far the largest contributing fact to explain why Alex ended up unconscious.

These two fighters have proven to be about as equal as possible with the outcome determined by which one makes a mistake first. Izzy's right hand is just as dangerous and powerful as Alex's left and it isn't the first time Alex has been hurt by it.

The difference this time wasn't chin or weight cut, it was nothing stopping Izzy from delivering the second one to put him away. No ref stepping in for BS standing 8 or getting too close in those last couple seconds of the round so he didn't have space to throw it again. Alex was frozen from taking the solid left-right combo allowing Izzy to bounce off the cage, fully load up and step into the second one immediately landing to the same spot as soon as Alex's head came back up. It was a right hand from hell no one could have taken.

2 sounds like BS. They said that about Rockhold but he took some clean punches from Costa without getting KOed. Chin is dependent on a good or bad weight cut.
Alex cut too much weight thats why Izzy sparked him out so easily. These clowns should fight at their natural weight class instead of damaging their bodies to fight smaller men

keep in mind Rockhold took 3 years off before he fought Costa. Costa is also not as powerful as Romero or Jan. His chin probably recovered a bit but still probably wasn't the same. However if you look at how Rockhold got knocked out it was mostly because of the punches he didn't see coming. (Bisping, Romero, Jan).

Glove sizes matter. The fact that you think it doesn't tells me you haven't been hit with boxing gloves VS MMA gloves.

Floyd is one of the best boxers alive right now. And he fought someone who is not a boxer. I'm sure if Connor and Floyd brought it to an octagon Connor would easily knock him out (via ground and pound) or submit him.

The term chin is really referring to the mental strength of the fighter being able to fight back the darkness that tries to take over after taking a hard shot to the head and remain conscious giving them a chance to fight for survival.

It is very common to see fighters go a long time showing no response to taking incredibly hard shots until they get caught with one they did not see coming that puts them out completely because their mind had no chance to prepare and react to the trauma.

It is also common that once someone has been introduced to the darkness, it becomes much easier to reunite them with that old friend. As far as I know that was the first time Alex was sent to the shadow realm and he spent a good amount of time there, so it will be interesting to see how that changes him in his next fight.

They get knocked out really easily.

You rarely see them take solid shots and bite down on the gumshield and keep fighting.

One good shot is usually all it takes in MMA.

Jake paul knocking out loads of ex MMA fighters also supports the point, when he fought a low level boxer Tommy Fury he never hurt fury (he did get a "knockdown" but it was really a slip and Fury wasn't hurt at all)

Boxing is way more "distilled" of a sport.

From the techniques to the fighters, it's all super refined.

So a tough boxer will almost definitely be the toughest of the toughest of the toughest.

Where as a good/tough MMA fighter may just be some guy with enough skill in one discipline (out of many) to have too much of an advantage (like Khabib).

In boxing, whatever advantage one guy has, the blueprint to beat that advantage is already well established and refined.

The other thing with boxing if you're technically ultra proficient/mastery, the only way you'll lose is by age.

In boxing the only advantages that can't be overcome are technique and willpower.

In boxing if you're opponent is determined that he isn't going anywhere it's gonna be a long night.

In MMA your will to win doesn't matter if you get submitted, a RNC doesn't care how tough you are or how bad you want to win.

lol @ the usual MMAcel cope. None of these *******s have given the real answer.

The reason MMA guys have glassjaw is purely because the talent pool is incredibly shallow. That's it. That's your fkn answer. Any regular ol bum could slip through the crack and be a contender and champion. There's no filtering process.

In boxing, if you have a glass jaw, you are weeded out IMMEDIATELY at the amateur level. You simply do not get past that stage. Thus, the ones who do make it to the national/pro/elite level either have to have a good jaw, or something otherworldly to overcompensate for that.

Look at Roy Jones Jr: nobody in the world knew he was a glassjawcel all throughout his amateur and pro career, because he literally had superhuman speed and reflex to compensate and hide that fact. When he got old and his physical talent deteriorated, it was only then that guys managed to land cleanly on him and expose him for having glass jaw.

Another example would be Amir Khan: notoriously chinny, but makes it to the elite level off his insane handspeed.

MMA guys simply do not go through the gauntlet like boxers or thaiboxers. You have fkn high school teachers, NFL rejects, boxing rejects, all becoming world champions because the talent pool is pathetic.

Not only is the chin in MMA pathetic, so is the supposedly powerful strikers.

As mentioned, look at how Floyd absolutely laughed ath McGregor's pillow fist, despite McGregor having 20+ lbs on him on fight night. McGregor was putting all the bums in MMA's lights out and MMA simps were calling his left hand "nuclear" lmao.

Then there's Anderson Silva. Dude touches MMA guys and those bums just collapse. In boxing, he couldn't even fkn hurt Jake Paul. He even got cleanly knocked down by a youtuber.

MMA sounds good on paper, but it does fukk all in determining actual top tier combat talents.

edit: "muh 4oz gloves!!!" is pure cope. Yeah, it's 4oz.... worn on MMA bums who couldn't bust a grape lol. Yet, those MMA bums are still getting KO'd by pillow fisted bums like Anderson Silva and Mcgregor.

Look at BKFC: Dat Nguyen is a tough little MFer who regularly fights guys much bigger than him, yet has never been knocked out despite it being literally bare knuckles. Why? Because Dat Nguyen was a failed boxer who was put through the gauntlet and his chin has survived much superior punchers than any bums in BKFC.

Some mma fighters have terrible chins, some don't like Nate Diaz and Max Holloway. Some lose their chins through sparring wars and chit. Chins are notorious for having a limit of punches that can be absorbed before they go to chit.

Also disregarding the impact of 4oz gloves is retarded.
I have a Mayweather theory

He is benevolent

No, Mayweather does have a great chin. He's been hit flush by all the hardest hitters of his gen, and only touched the canvas once, unofficially. And that was only his hand.

Mayweather great chin + McGregor's pillow fist is exactly why Floyd started walking him down once he realized McNugget was only tickling him.

The reason you're struggling to understand any of this is because you don't understand relativity.

Nate Diaz and Max Holloway have good chins.... FOR MMA standard. That is, relatively, compared to their MMA peers, then you can agree that they have good chin. But in COMPARISON to boxers, their chin is trash. Why? Because Nate Diaz's and Holloway chin will not hold up to the punching power of boxers. I can guarantee they get their **** spark'd in boxing by any decent punching 135lber. There was a famous video of Nick Diaz (who also has a rep of having a great chin in MMA) getting faceplanted in sparring by a pro 130 pounder.

We can disregard 4oz easily because bare knuckle boxing and lethwei exist. A great chin in boxing will be a great chin in bareknuckle. You attributing the piss poor chin in MMA to 4oz is pure fkn cope.

But why does Mayweather have a great chin? He see's everything coming, expects most punches, and rolls with it. He has a great chin, because he sees everything coming, and has exceptional experience and defense.

No, that's cope. It's part of the reason, but not the main. The main is genetic. Why do we know that great chin is mostly genetic and not technique? Because there are boxers with absolute piss poor defensive technique, and they tank the fukk out of elite boxer's punches.

Antonio Margarito has no head movement, doesn't see chit coming, does not deflect punches, has never heard of rolling with punches in his life. And he tanks 99% powerpunches in boxing with his face.

Stop coping. Boxers have great chin because it's absolutely fundamental in being a successful boxer. People with chit chin/cannot take a punch get filtered out at the YMCA/local boxing gym level.

Hence, the expression "creme de la creme" literally the cream rises to the top.
