i'll say it again... izzy fell in love with himself too much
he feints too much and does nothing with it... someone finally exploited it

Izzy said it himself in the pre-fight interview:
Not exact quote, but he said it.
'Strickland is the most dangerous kind of opponent because he has nothing to lose and everything to gain.'
No champion is unbeatable. The same is going to happen to Jones - one day.

Oh well, I just watch the event on Sunday morning while doing cardio.
I learned a long time ago not to look at any social media on Sunday morning when I fell asleep before the main event.

That was a strange fight to watch, mayne. I'm an Izzy hater, and went to a bar for the PPV just for a chance to see him lose. But seeing him drop to a +600 dog felt almost anticlimactic, if anything.
Strickland brought a really basic boxing gameplan against Izzy. He executed it well, with defense especially, but this chit wasn't quantum physics. It was all jabs and head movement. And Izzy just had no way to deal with it.
It's almost like Izzy was stoned... he just seemed super lackadaisical throughout the fight. Even in round 5, when Strickland was up 3 rounds to 1 and Izzy's only path towards victory was a KO, he didn't come out swinging. Strickland started giving him chit, like "come and fight me!" (10/10 str8 alpha gladiator chit), and Izzy didn't want to fight him. He just kind of just kept backing down and throwing a few jabs.
IDK. It was like the kind of normal lame-ass point fighting we see from Izzy, but he was LOSING on points to a better striker the entire fight, and he never seemed to recognize it.

It makes me wonder if Sean went up against somebody who was a threat to grapple, I wonder how his style would match up against that. It seems like his gameplan worked really well bc Izzy isn't a threat, but I just wonder how he would deal with somebody like Vettori.
Dricus and Strickland would be an amazing fight. both guys with balls of steel.

Never doubted Sean. Nothing compares to sparring 24/7. Seans defence was Spiderman tier especially the leg kicks. Izzy thought he could just chop his legs down but practically every kick was defended or at best got half power

I have thought this for years, once you reach a certain level, sparring is a more efficient use of training time than hitting mitts, running, gi jiu jitsu, or most S&C sessions. It seems the current training split is 80% non-sparring, 20% sparring. That should be flipped. Strickland is probably like 90/10 srs. It doesn't have to be full psycho sparring. It makes logical sense that to get better at something, do it as often as possible. I dunno, it definitely works for him anyway.Never doubted Sean.Nothing compares to sparring 24/7.Seans defence was Spiderman tier especially the leg kicks. I think a key part though was that he checked most of the leg kicks. I think the most impressive part though was he stuck to the game plan the whole entire time, didn't panic, stayed disciplined, kept repeating what was working. I'm honestly kinda surprised that Adesanya throughout 5 rounds couldn't adapt and had no answer for what is seemingly a simple gameplan. But maybe Strickland's defense is just that good. I would think though if someone was a threat to grapple he would be susceptible to that but who knows.I think there is something to this. Strickland is not naturally gifted at all. maybe he has the secret formula lol. alot of guys who spar alot go hard and as a result they are not that recovered come the fight and they destroy their chin. but not enough sparring and perhaps your reflexes, your adrenaline isn't there. but it makes sense to be a better fighter in the cage, you need to simulate a fighting environment as much as possible for many hours.

Tbh we dont know how much damage that knockdown did. That was a lot of unanswered shots to the head. Rattled his brain for sure and probably had an adrenaline dump and became flooded with self doubt

Which is great for powerlifting, weightlifting, shooting basketball free throws, etc. There's no reason to believe fighting would be any different, except for the constant impact. Even if they're using bigger gloves and sparring "light", it's still hundreds/thousands of blows to the head accumulating over time.
I can't remember who it was... maybe it was Max Holloway, who used to spar almost exclusively, but cut back to basically zero sparring.

also izzy barely did any front kicks to the knee which seems like a mistake. Would have been a way to deal with his checks and forward pressure

The amount of sparring Sean does is legendary.
He’s gotten the better of Kahmzat in sparring and kahmzat’s management said he’s not allowed to spar Sean anymore. The guy is just better than most people thought. Reaching out to Perierra and training with him was smart as well.
