I have a staph infection from BJJ. Am I gonna die, misc?

A few days ago I noticed a small wound sort of right where my bra strap meets my armpit. Put a bandaid on it and ignored it. Unfortunately, seems to have gotten worse. I showed the women at my BJJ gym in the locker room and one was like 'that looks like ringworm, go to urgent care.' I went to urgent care and the doctor there said, 'nah fam, it's not ringworm, looks like staph infection/impetigo, here is antibiotic cream prescription.'

So I have antibiotic cream and instructions to apply 2 x daily until it goes away, unless it's MRSA and doesn't go away and I DIE (no, she said if it doesn't go away then I can come back).

This would all be fine except I have also been feeling run down/sick to my stomach for the past few days and what if the infection is in my blood and I DIE????

Hold me misc. Also please don't be all 'ew gross' and mean to me, I didn't post pics in this thread and for once you should all be grateful.

Raw garlic (eaten and you can rub it on the area) and acidophilus

Also shower more thoroughly immediately after training

Cream is fake news

Also please don't go on the mats if you have it

I do already shower after training with the defense soap they have in the showers, but I can be more thorough with the soap and not rush in future, good stuff.

OF COURSE I am not going on the mats until it clears up. Don't want to give this to anyone else, ugh!

how is cream fake news tho???? nah imma trust medical science here... may get a 2nd opinion from my regular dr. on Monday if it doesn't look much better tho.

It's a bummer because training was going very well, really leveled up my defensive game which had been lacking.

the person who told you to go to urgent care because of ring worm is retarded. ring worm isn't something you go to urgent care for, you just put cream on it. that being said just put whatever cream they gave you on it, should be gone in a few weeks.

also you're fuking groce, dead srs. I've never gotten ring worm or any time of skin infection when i wrestled. do you not shower after practice? like a cold shower?

Naa you will be fine. Probably half of the guys on my wrestling team (including myself) got staph. Just take your meds and stay off the mats. Clean your gift and all of the other articles of clothing you used. Wash your sheets and bedding, and get new sponges and lufas if you use those. Just be smart about it and don't be the jack ass who goes back to training before it's been cleared by a Dr.

Okay well you are worried about it going septic and you expect a topical treatment to take care of that??

Up to you if you're worried about it, take the topical cream by all means.

I suggested Raw Garlic for the Alicin (natural antibiotic) and as it's the only things proven to kill MRSA effectively (you mentioned MRSA)

I suggested Acidophilus as Eddie B swears by it for ring worm and also to bolster your gut flora with the large amount of Alicin you will be consuming from the Raw Garlic

By all means trust Medical Science but topical treatment won't cover the aforementioned concerns (if you are serious about them)

I always shower after practice. The temperature really isn't an option because the showers at the gym where I train are pretty much one setting only, but I usually shower AGAIN when I get home end of day as well. Three showers a day is my usual.

What I have heard is that maybe I should NOT shower right before heading to the gym (which I do so I don't smell bad); I heard it can make my skin more pervious to infection. That would be an ironic issue.

But yeah. I shower a lot, I think it's just bad luck, and I'll try to pay attention to any missing links in routine in future.

I got an infection, due to a cut in my foot being infected during Kali training on mats.

A dude I trained with, who was also a black belt in Kyokushin Karate (meaning he had been training for a long time, in a contact sport), he basically told me:

"Always shower ASAP post training with good soap, and use disinfectant on any cuts - no matter how small - and on your feet. "

(The bitch of the experience is that my right big toe has never been the same after that infection. If I put too much weight on it for a long time, or walk for long periods, the muscle begins to hurt.)

Basically... I hope you get well soon OP, and I hope the advice I shared can prevent future infections.

OK, good advice. I will do an intensive laundry session tomorrow. The thing is, I typically am quite good about cleaning clothing between uses--I never reuse a gi, which a lot of other people do.

Yeah, I actually do have acidophilus and take it pretty frequently. I was semiserious about the concerns about MRSA--I am aware that if it's in my blood topical treatment won't cure it, so that's a completely fair thing to say. If I continue to feel under the weather or sick I'll see a doctor as well as the garlic thing, though. Thanks for answering seriously.

I think that I should probably still use the topical cream, though, since the doctor said that it should be efficacious in fixing at least the skin ailment in about 3 days?

susprised they treated this correctly i have this prejudiced view of over prescription of antibiotics from us doctors cause they are afraid to get sued.

You will be fine if a redness appears and spreads you should be worried otherwise not.

I'm not sure cold water kills bacteria, m8. I think only water hot enough to boil can do that. What is probably true is that the cold water kept you from sweating, and sweat carries germs. You might say your coach was right in the same way that a stopped clock is right twice a day.

And yeah. I'm not gonna rub garlic on it or anything, just do the cream thing the doctor said and um, maybe try and kill some vampires by chewing on a clove of garlic or two? maybe after my girlfriend leaves tonight.

Yeah, you call it a gi.

I always wash my gi after every single class, and in summertime so does everyone else, buuuuuut in winter there were some gross guys who'd wear the same gi two days in a row. I avoided rolling with them because ew. Some people are also superstitious and never wash their belts, which I just can't deal with either.

Actually, though, I probably got this infection from no gi class (just wearing normal compression gear). There's more skin exposed that way.
