Wishing you were someone else is cope. You chose your life. (srs)
In light of so many Miscers worshiping athletes, businessmen, lifters, etc., and even posting threads like:
“Who would you rather be: rich person X or good looking person Y?”
I thought I would take this moment to provide you with the following PSA:
People choose the life that they ultimately lead. So if you don’t like where you are at in your life, now is the time to start changing it. If you want to look to others for advice on how to get there, that’s great. But around here, it sometimes starts to look like you’re just obsessing over some dude.
So no matter where you started, you can improve your life. What do you want to do with your life? What kind of person do you want to be? Notice I didn’t ask you how much money you wanted to have or how famous you wanted to be. I asked you what you wanted to do and who you want to be, because you can start moving in that direction right now.
Don’t listen to other negative, depressed Miscers in the echo chamber that is this forum.

Lots of high ranking celebrities have breakdowns, chitty marriages and shallow lives in general.
If you envy those people you're very unwise.
People need to learn to accept and love themselves 100% for who they are and make the best out of it.

Also, there is no "right" to have an easy life. To expect that, and fall short of that is a recipe for disappointment. Too many have that mindset without putting in the effort.
Another part of the problem is people put effort into the wrong things and end up spinning their wheels for nothing.

Ultimately, you have to be comfortable in your own skin and be confident in yourself. Also, monetary success doesn't always make someone "better."

I agree and the amount of time people spend paying attention to the lives of athletes, celebs, etc. is staggering.
I didn't have the easiest teen years and really got fukked over due to life circumstances. Never graduated HS, had to quit school at 16. Basically had to get a GED at 20. Enrolled in a community college because I didn't qualify for any university. Did 2 years then transferred to a state college and got my bachelors. Paid my entire way through school and graduated debt free. Got a job at 24 and just grinded my 20s away. Now that I'm in my 30s I'm doing pretty good and life is on cruise control, especially financially. Given nothing in life. Massive disadvantages from my teen years. No real adult guidance/advice/direction for my life. Etc.
I can't even imagine where I'd be if I sat around watching reality TV or scrolling through Instagram all day long fantasizing about the lives of the rich/famous. Blows my mind when I see people talking about 'white privilege' or talking about how hard it is for millennials to get ahead.

You should definitely focus on what you can control and compete with our past self rather than compare yourself to others, and most people have the potential to carve out a pretty damn good life if they put their mind to it.
But we shouldn't ignore the luck and number of factors that can't be controlled, or the fact that some people do have a much stronger start in life that a lot of very successful people have. It's not a reason to be negative though, and i'm not sure you should envy them.

I figured I was mostly addressing the Miscers in their early twenties. I didn't think I'd have to provide explanations to a 32 year old.

Don't think many people would actually go for it if they could. srs
As for me, even the thought of going back and changing something in my past gives me nightmares. One small change and I could lose everything I have now. I don't want that.

I mean, it's credence to the fact that you can work at making things better. Maybe not everything is in your control, but you can give yourself more opportunities to have a better life by being proactive about it.

It kind of deviates from the belief around here that serious posts and trying to help people here are a waste of time.
