The Manson Family is proof of how the left have always been easily misled to do bad

The Manson Family was just some far left hippie cult until they decided to start murdering people. It was all a slippery slope that started with radical leftist and communist beliefs, and eventually led to people being brainwashed to the point where they were committing atrocious acts. Heck they were even big on concepts like race war, and started out in the San Francisco Bay Area during the hippie "summer of love" era. Everything about them was essentially a development of a far left group that was allowed to operate unopposed until the damage was done. His followers were just young adult far left hippies who were desperate to be a part of something and eager to fall into the cult of Manson because they were easily persuaded by his divisive rhetoric.

You're right, this one incident is undeniable proof.

Right wing individuals have never, ever been involved in cults or done terrible things in the name of their beliefs.

I think you do some more research into the Manson family.

It was a doomsday cult from it's inception, Manson was intentionally creating a cult, and using LSD to help brainwash them.

You seem to make it sound like it was a bunch of hippies which transformed into a dangerous cult.

Obviously nobody is perfect but I think there are some very valuable lessons to have learned from the Manson Family. Shows how far left extremism can lead to terrible things if followers get brainwashed enough.

Same thing regarding far right extremism, that's why it's called extremism.

Political extremists are called that because they aren't benign.

Like I said, you missed out on the widespread use of LSD within the group.

He didn't just preach extreme political and religious propaganda to a group of sober people.

A charismatic cult leader + LSD are crucial parts. You seem to be framing it as Far Left ideas = the key to understanding why the Manson family did what they did.

Nah you are just trying to cope with the facts right now. Fact is that I was simply presenting the fact that the far left can do terrible things when pushed into a cult like group and are susceptible to extremism when misled. You are simply trying to deflect.

I agreed with you.

I said that's why they are called political extremists.
You are simply trying to deflect.
Do you agree that widespread use of LSD, and a Charismatic leader played a key role?

If far left ideology explained it alone, then that doesn't account for how it happens outside of far left ideologies.

To be honest though...What do you believe the Manson family's political views were?

Cope. Everyone in Cali was a leftist back then

To differentiate them from the herd you had to acknowledge they were essentially practicing the same doctrine as guys like Crowley

But I get it you’re trying to make a boogyman out of an entire political affiliation because “neoliberal” is too banal for an edgy thread such as this

No, your interpretation was wrong.

The point of it was to show that there was more to the reasons why the Manson family did what they did, than simply political views.

I would strongly suggest - which I don't think you've done - looking into how cults work. Then you will see similiarities between groups, from the Manson family, to Scientology, to Aum Shinrikyo.

Cults are different to national political movements. You seem to be trying to equate a cult to a political movement.

What could go wrong with an insane dude preaching to a bunch of vulnerable women who've been brainwashed and tripping on LSD out in the middle of the desert?

Extremists of all sorts can be dangerous. Good example is Jonestown.

According to group member Susan Atkins, the Family believed that Manson was a manifestation of Jesus and that his prophecies were reliable concerning an imminent, apocalyptic race war.

You're equating an LSD cult to the left (i.e. your thread title). The left being a very wide group of political philosophies. From Social Democrats, to Left Wing Market Anarchists, to Maoists... You lump them all together.

There's nothing to 'deflect', because it's a deeply flawed equivalence. Like a bunch of people ITT have pointed out.

Like somebody else says, it seems like you want everyone to see any leftists as a potential extremist... Which is exactly whatsomeleft wingers want Trump supporters to be seen as.

You really thing BLM is a left wing construct? I’ve yet to see one person be able to identify the grassroots campaigns responsible for the movement besides a lot of “where is the money coming from, and if organizations are funding it, who’s okaying it from above” type of rhetoric

That would seem to imply the right isn’t sympathetic and in fact fully opposed to racial justice which isn’t really true at all

Just another deception tactic. If that were true don't you think they would have been studying bibles instead of listening to the Beatles..? Kind of like BLM today... brb drug addict is an angel and martyr for our cause

They loved the chapter of revelation, which is basically what all mentally unstable and dangerous Christian groups since the middle ages did.

But you take that none argument way more serious than my post did. It's a childish analogy you are opening. Yes, the cult of personality is dangerous and over the top with George Floyd, but the dude is not the first nor the only person, who people blindly follow. Be it Michael Jackson, Genghis Khan, Stalin or Trump.
The way drugs were used by New Age hippies searching for meaning is way different than the drug use Floyd engaged in.

Like said before it is pretty weird to equalize the two dozen Manson family to large political movements and not to other cults. The Westboro Baptist church would be a similar small extremist right wing cult for example.

When it comes to New Age esoteric beliefs there often is a right wing/left wing crossover anyways. Hippie groups adapt white supremacist Thule society ideas, while many neo nazis(actual neo nazis not just conservatives) love that stuff as well.

I think you are trying to expand this too broadly in an attempt to deflect attention on to other groups and different arguments to be made. The point I was making was simply that the left is far from being saints when it comes to their organized extremists and they have done some chitty things. It seems like the more focus that is placed on other groups, trying to twist this around into some sort means to act defensively, it's because they don't want to acknowledge that or are simply trying to cope with that.

Basically chitty extremism exists everywhere, and there's always been connections to organized religion, but even the left can fall prey to that and that was the point I was trying to make.
