Why does the UK hold the royal family in high regard?

They are who they are because their ancestors saw your ancestors as gutter trash. Think about that.

Here in America, our version of the royal family are the Kardashian family who are self-made.

She's a symbol of the sovereignty bestowed upon each individual by the state.

Her mere existence takes a certain pressure off the government to appear 'perfect' as a symbolic representation of the state because she plays this role, which is why we aren't quite as interested in our governments personal lives as you US brahs are. It also gives at least puts some restrictions on politicians.

It's largely symbolic.

Considering over 29 million Americans tuned in for Harry and Meghan's royal wedding, clearly it's not just the Brits that have a fascination with the Royal family. Maybe figure out why so many Americans hold the Royal family in such high regard and you'll have your answer. It's clearly not just a British thing or even an American thing either, 1.9 billion people watched that wedding.

To me the monarchy is a symbol of tradition and stability but also a strong buffer against any potential tyrannical government whether that be communist, fascist etc etc when we tried a republic in the 1600’s, we ended up switching a king for a dictator, our parliament quickly realised the benefits of a constitutional monarchy and brought it back, we essentially sorted our constitutional issues 100 years before any other European power and we haven’t looked back since
